Topic: Guitar Hero III Posted: May 17 2008 at 13:10 |
Got this for my birthday on the Wii (ok, my sons' Wii), it's a good laugh even though it does my head in after a while. Just played Muse's Knights of Cydonia.
Anyone want to share any tips or anything about the game?

What level are you on (Easy, Medium, Hard)?
When you beat the last guitar battle (against satan himself) you unlock Dragonforce's Through the Fire and the Flames. It's the greatest thing ever.

Guitar Hero III is too hard for me. I can only do about half the songs on hard, and I can't even beat Slash.
Rock Band is much easier, I can do all the songs on expert. But I normally play drums in Rock Band; I'm a drumming legend at my school.

Still on Easy at the moment, but I only got it on Wednesday. I couldn't get the timing right to start with it, which worried me slightly as I've been a bass player for 30 years. Then I discovered it was better to just flick the strum bar upwards, rather than actually strumming it like a real guitar, then it all clicked into place.

Yeah, I play bass too and I definitely had a rough time starting out. It's really a matter of just getting your eye to recognize distances between notes and to associate fingers to colors (this is doubly hard if you're red/green colorblind like me and 30% of all men). The game is a blast, I got into it playing GH2 in college. Just wait until Reign in Blood. That song is freakin hard.

I've never seen the point in Guitar Hero, I'd rather pick up a real guitar and play that.

IMO Guitar Hero is trash and is terrible for any guitarist in the sense that :
-It can screw with your technique (being that it's designed as if there were 1 string with 5 frets
-Most importantly, it's taking away time that you could be practicing your REAL guitar and progressing as a musician.

^The above 2 posts pretty much sum up why I don't like Guitar Hero. Playing a real guitar is much more satisfying and far less frustrating.

The frustration, that's another thing I don't seem to get. I am able to play "Cliffs of Dover", "Number of the Beast", "Raining Blood" on actual guitar pretty well but I cannot seem to get past 6 or 7% on guitar hero...what's with that?

It's because to most musicians Guitar Hero doesn't make any sense as none of the game control seems to be tied to the music that you're 'playing,' I tried playing the original on a friends PS2 and I just hated it, the guitar controller is far too small and the way you have to use it is frankly stupid, if it didn't below to my friend I would probably have taken great pleasure in smashing both the controller and game disc to tiny pieces.

Playing real guitar is easier.

It's a bit of a laugh, which is about all you can ask for, and it's a nice opportunity for someone (like me) who can't play to pretend to be Pete Townshend. Interestingly for me as a pianist, it does highlight how lazy my left hand (in particular little finger) has become.
