in case M@X's post was not clear.. and to some of us.. it was not... this is the word we have got.. and this should clear things up a bit

This Torman Maxt issue is a storm in a teacup.

Max received many complaints about the amount and type of advertising that was showing up on the site and looked to generate revenue from other avenues. The TM deal was one such avenue that was explored and then pursued.
Two one star reviews were removed. One of the reviews was utter sh*t. The other was a perfectly good review and Max asked if the reviewer would mind it being held back until the end of the promotional period. The reviewer graciously agreed.

One moron is trolling the site, and any other he can get access to, and is making a lot of noise. This does not represent a surge of anti-ProgArchives sentiment, just one person demanding comment from others.

Advertising should not be that much of an issue. How much does PA cost to run monthy/annually?

I'd be willing to donate quite a bit to see it not be screwed up, and if a few others do, then the torman maxt thing doesn't need to happen again.

how about more ads? it's less controversial. (as long as the "Hellooooooo" or "you've been selected to receive a free Nano" are never used)

Don't believe a word he says, he's got nothing saggyLOL.... Anyway, last summer there was a Lane Bryant store close to where we were staying, and every time we passed by it we laughed like mad thinking of the ads on PAWink.

It's so ironic... we can't review the mighty Tortman album... yet we are free to review an album that comes out in a month (Opeth's Watershed)...

Such a great message we send: "hey! Free downloads of an album but you can't review it negatively.. on the other hand, if you have obtained an illegal download or copy of a non-released album, you're free to review it!!"

Reviews on albums not yet released will be deleted unless the reviewers prove they have an official promo copy.

On a positive note, I've been seeing some excellent reviews from ExitTheLemming recently.

Clap

Even if I didn't always agree about the final judgment.

This might be out of the blue, but if PA needs a means to inject some capital, how about an attempt at licensing digital downloads of all those bands who never made it big. Those like Gnidrolog, Night Sun, some of the Zeuhl, RIO/Avant-Garde, Krautrock and other revered but not commercially successful acts that are and have managed to build up a fanbase at PA.
If the band owns their masters, post them on PA. Offer a flat monthly rate for unlimited downloads. Negotiate the distribution of the revenue based on downloads.
Let's face it, (and hopefully those "cult" bands will too) a lot of those never saw a cent from their recordings, so a few dollars would be better than nothing. Who knows, maybe some see a possibility of reuniting and being able to finance new music through a scheme of this sort.
Oh, and wouldn't it be nice that a PROGRESSIVE Music site be the first to initiate the sort of progress that is just now being seriously considered by the old guard music industry.

I do see it for what it is. This is censorship for sale. You can't get around it. Someone paid to have negative commentary withheld. It is wrong, and should never have happened. It should never have even been considered.

This is a lousy system, why can't all edit their reviews?! They aren't even allowed to refer to each other... I understand that the spelling and generally reviews must be done well at once, but now everything is more difficult. Bad reviews get erased anyway..

I was told that you can ask for temporary editing change, but it's quite difficult. Where do I ask? Ok, I ask now, because I failed with my "review". But in some cases (talking about albums, or band addition procedure), even any information would be good. Ratings without reviews will go also.

[QUOTE=ProgBagel]Perhaps I'm being to critical on this review. I have no reason to disagree with his opinions on McLaughlins playing style. But. The last sentence is a little demeaning. This album by Mahavishnu was entirely composed by McLaughlin himself. So this album would not be possible withouth him. A lack of knowledge behind the music.

that is a really awful, angry and painful 'review' to read   ..I have no idea if it breaks site policy but it should

Hmm, I sort of like that review as a painful little zap on ze nose to all the tech-freaks ;P and I don't think we should be removing/editing reviews because their content isn't based on fact - a lot of people romanticise music and review what their mind hears rather than what's there. long may it continue =P
