Do that, then check out the album I posted.

To get this back on topic, Glenn Branca was sort of proto-post-rock (way back in 1981) with his mind-blowing album The Ascension.

The sound of minimalist classical when played really loud on four distorted electric guitars.  It's amazing.

I'm just going to keep quoting this until someone gets the album.

Knowing your tastes, you should really like it, Equality.

It manages to be both really sublime and really loud at the same time.  I just can't help gushing over it.  It deserves it.

My sister introduced me to Glenn Branca and for a bit of trivia Sonic Youth cite him as an influence.
I warn you guys though, it's not that easy to listen to, and it took me quite a while to really get into it.

Sonic Youth would cite him as an influence.  You know one of the four guitarists on The Ascension?

Thurston Moore

Yeah, he's not the easiest to listen to, but he is so utterly fantastic that it's worth the effort.

Glenn Branca is one of my favorites, I have just about every album he's put out, they're each a separate  excursion in tonality and dissonance, Branca is a mentor to Thurston  Moore, Lee Ronaldo and Michael Gira, they all took part in his guitar symphonies early on, I actually inquired about submitting him into the Archives a long time ago, but was ignored ...oh well...if you haven't already-also check out Rhys Chatham who is also somewhat of a contemporary of Branca making similar gong like guitar epics around the same time and place,

He's the sort of artist who you could make a strong case for and against inclusion.  Personally, I'd worry more about true prog bands.

Where should I go next?  I only have The Ascension.

Id say get the CD "Lesson No 1" next which is similar to "The Ascension"...then start paving your way through the Symphonies, starting with "Symphony #1(Tonal Plexus)",

Hey guys. I posted on this thread a few times near its creation, then I just got the replies emailed to me and have been following it like that. It's been a great way to learn about and listen to a lot of great new post-rock bands.
However, I was looking on PA today to see where This Will Destroy You ranked among the Post/Math Rock albums when I discovered that.... THIS WILL DESTROY YOU ISN'T EVEN IN THE ARCHIVES!!! I know they've been discussed several times on this thread, but they really need to be on PA. They're an incredible post-rock band with a distinct sound and they've done a lot of great things for post-rock in the last couple of years. So... yeah, TWDY needs to be in the archives asap.
