^ very true Bob....  they say in this election the electoral map (and math)  we have sort of got used to might be turned on it's ear... imagine the Dem's losing Michigan (Romney perhaps) and still winning the election.  Has that ever happened hahahha

hahha.. he could be white, green or red...  the key is liberal...   they wouldn't even vote for old Abe Lincoln himself if he rose from the dead to try to save this country hahhaha.  Thankfully those in the hinterland really have no bearing on the election... elections here are decided not on the left or the right.. but those in the center... free thinkers.. those not tied to petty ideology...  those are the votes that Obama can.. and probably will win.  Watch the debates that come in the fall...  the differences will be striking. Talk about race.. pfff.... talk about the AGE difference....  McCain may simply be too old...  don't think the factual errors misteps he as made (100 years of troops in Iraq) are suddenly going to be forgotten. and probably will be associated with age.  Age.. not race may decide this election.  Not to mention... again.. those in the middle don't hate liberals...  or hate the neo-Nazi's... they judge upon the candidate.. and if Bush showed anything... lack of experience...lack of apparent intellect.. and finally in 04'  lack of any substantive achievement means nothing when a population thinks you are a nice guy.. and look good. 

as it always has been...  this is the Democrats election to lose... and I don't think.. and no one has seen any reason to think that Obama is stupid and will give this election to McCain.  People want change.. and unless Obama gives them reason NOT to vote for him.. they will.

Most Americans vote based on emotion (fear of terrorism) or personality (Bush seems like a cool guy, much more badass than John Kerry) rather than rational reasons, so who knows?  I was watching CNN (for about 10 minutes before it pissed me off) last night and according to some random poll about 25% of the people who planned on voting for Hillary Clinton were willing to change to McCain (only ~50% would have stuck with Obama, the rest "didn't know").  Considering Obama and Clinton are pretty similar on virtually every issue and McCain is the opposite in many, the McCain 25% in that poll is f**king stoopid.

The problem, to roughly paraphrase Tommy Douglas , is that in a two party democracy the people , which he named the mice, would vote for one party of cats, and when that party did not deliver, the mice would vote for the other party of cats. Then proceed to complain about the cats use of political democracy, instead of voting for a party of mice.
For the modern day equivalent, here are two North American examples : in the U.S., vote for the third party, whoever that is who is allowed to run outside the Republicans & the Democrats. Be it Ralph Nader or Ross Perot, leave behind the argument of which is the lesser of two evils. In Canada, we have a nice choice, not only of a third party - the New Democratic Party, but also a Green party who is rapidly gaining ground, a regional interest party - the Bloc Quebecois, whose only interest is the interests of the province of Quebec.
And you ask why - because if the two main parties see the electorate as somehow beholden to voting for one of them, why would they actually affect any major change in their policies. Aim for centre-right, or centre-left. Then let the voter perceive that there is actually more than a sliver of difference in actual actions that will be taken once in power.

Whoever you are & wherever you are in the world, it don't matter a jot who you vote for, The Government always win. If democracy actually changed anything, they would ban it.
