To be honest...I still haven't heard them, but now that you mention it, I'll check'em out if you think it's that important. |

I personally find Laughing Stock superior to Spirit of Eden. Give it a listen sometime. |

Also, it's not really post/math-rock; it's more like classical music for four guitars (it's REALLY loud), but Glenn Branca's The Ascension (1981) is mindblowing. And then some.

Spirit of Eden is a masterpiece, Laughing stock is not far behind, and Spiderland was really cool, but at the same time a little too weird.

I don't think it's possible to be too weird!

Unless it's Magma, eh? Schizoid, give Spiderland more listens. Especially in the dark. |

I have The Colour of Spring, but I haven't listened. It's on my playlist for tonight, I expect I will like it a lot. |

I really like Kevin Gilbert's Toy Matinee album,I think it is a fine attempt at making intelligent, musically challenging pop. The Colour of Spring is like that. You could tell Mark Hollis was starting to take his music in a different direction.

Should Talk Talk be moved to post rock? I dont think they are a post rock band, but SoE, and LS are both highly experimental/minimal albums that paved the way for many post rocksters.

Spirit of Eden and Laughing Stock are the two albums for which they are on the archives, and neither is crossover prog. I'd say move either to prog related or to post-rock, since, while not exactly post-rock, both albums are, as you said, a huge influence on post-rock. Off topic, I listened to The Colour of Spring earlier and it was great. |

Slint's Spiderland is truly influential, more than Talk Talk's two albums..

I'm really enjoying Laughing Stock and I'm even going to give Spirit of Eden a third listen! Not into Slint, though.

I guess I'll give Spiderland a listen after I'm done with this Cult of Luna.
IMO, Khoma was a really... pretty sounding group, but they dont come with the emotive gut wrenching feeling CoL leaves me with. Maybe i have to listen to it some more, but it takes more than a pretty voice to play such intense music as the Cult.

Umm... is this relevant? It certainly is more influential, but that has nothing to do with whether Talk Talk are post-rock or not. |
