Topic: Free new Opeth song to listen - legal Posted: April 22 2008 at 09:01 |
Roadrunnerrecords 'leaked' one of the songs from the upcoming Opeth album. So that makes it legal to listen and distribute. You can also download it from there.

EDIT: removed song analysis.

This is however an edited version, the actual version is slightly longer and a TON more proggy

Looks like this album is going to be over WAY too fast But from what I have heard- it sounds like 5 FAT GLITTERY stars.

c'mon, it's still around 55 minutes! I generally think that it's the ideal album length (between 55 - 65 min)

If The Lotus Eater is anything to go by Watershed is going to be excellent.
If a vinyl version is produced I'll probably buy it but it all depends on how much cash I've got as I did just spend over £40 preordering the ltd ed version of Schoolyard Ghosts by No-Man, plus I've got the CD on order and a preorder placed for The Pinapple Thief's next album. Then there's the next Russian Circles album.....

well, they just have now a music video of their single, Porcelain Heart. Unfortunately it's all chopped up like "The grand Conjuration" but the editing doesn't kill it as much as the previous song (and the video is not as cheesy). However, there are some youtube links with the full song.
It's not as direct, but it grew on me, the only problem I found was that it had a riff similar to Grand Conjuration (tho it works better here)

sounds awesome. i can't wait to hear it.
i agree that the songs are rather short...for Opeth, but still a decent length, I'm sure it'll be great.

Whoa! Blast beats! And that key part - first time I think I've ever had a good "ha!" from an Opeth song before. This song has nearly convinced me that they may very well top Ghost Reveries and win album of the year for me.
And I think that 55 minutes is definitely a good length for the album.

I just saw their new video from their myspace and it's kind of weird but the song's cool.

but the song [porcelain heart] is not as good as the full version, it sounds like a bunch of underdeveloped ideas due to it being 3 minutes shorter.
And I agree with the others, these 2 songs sound really great and we might have one of their best albums, despite the lineup changes.
laplace, it will of course sound like Opeth, but apparently they're experimenting within their sound. Blast beats, spooky outro, keyboard solo, clean vocals over brutal music (near the end), etc.

Wow, i must admit, i'm a bit disappointed. It sounds good, but not nearly as elaborate as i was hoping it to be. I suppose that this is the new style Mikael mentioned he was going for. Well, it's only one example, i'm sure that i'll end up buying it anyways.

Well, Lotus Eater and Porcelain Heart are two very good songs, and they played Heir Apparent last night when I saw them, another quality song there. I may have heard Hex Omega or Coil last night as well, I dont know what there opening song was but it was good. I think this 'll be a good album then.

I downloaded Porcelain Heart from Amazon mp3. I miss Lopez behind the kit a little bit, but I really liked what I heard. Mikael does a clean vocal throughout on this one.
