Damn it, the only Mono song I've heard is Yearning, which was from the Pelican/Mono split. Does anyone else have that split?

Oh stop it Igor, I always listen to your stuff on my CD player, but never on the computer, and I need to listen to the stuff while I'm reviewing it.

A band that is not here yet but needs to be: The Drift. Just picked up the album called Memory Drawings and I like it a lot. Great jazz feel to it as well.
Anyone else hear of them? |

from the bands website: The Drift (http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendid=16287920 ) are an instrumental four-piece from San Francisco who are comprised of trumpet, electronics, guitar, keyboards, upright bass and drums. The music combines elements of rare groove, dub, out jazz, and more esoteric leanings that conjure a unique musical space free of traditional confines, simultaneously frenetic and sublime. http://www.thedriftmusic.com/ check out the audio section for streaming. Another discovery - a band called 3epkano. Great songs available for
download and their second album available for purchase (just ordered).
From their myspace site http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendID=158943051 3epkano perform original contemporary live scores to classics of silent cinema. We are conditioned to associate a particular form of music with silent film; music that is produced or composed to match or pre-empt action on screen, more times than not it suffocates what is happening visually. Film, in the way it's constructed, the way it's edited, the movement on screen, has a rhythm almost musical in itself. 3epkano's music tries to liberate the image and tap into the atmosphere, the tone that is being generated by the visuals and narrative on screen. Creating music for 3epkano is a process of patient exploration and tentative discovery, the result is a compelling and unique cinematic experience. They have listed as friends on their myspace site bands like Dirty Three, GYBE, Mogwai and Battles. Their other website is http://www.smilingpolitelyrecords.com/index.html where you can download some great songs from their first album. Check them out! |

^^ I think that is what I really liked about it. The trumpet makes it a little different than many of the other post bands.
