Great list, James! Great and fundamental RPI in your list James!

Great problem, Andrea Cortese! These are the main problem because RPI is, for non Prog fans, a great obscure genre!

James, felt a little "wild and crazy" today, so I picked up Jet Lag by PFM. (I remember the anger and frustration steaming from this thread when you noticed it was 1star-ed by a couple of collabs LOL).

Not at all bad, just different, and I love the guitar work on it. Jazzed-up, sunny, laid-back pleasure. The singer is something of a thorn in my side though...

Hehe, no problem, I've got Jet Lag and Palepoli to keep me busy. And I need to catch up on reviews of other, non-RPI, albums Smile

Yeah, that's the spirit! Down with the machines.

I usually have a lot of patience when it comes to people, but computers and stuff...nope. Was writing a review when it suddenly felt like being promptly erased. What happened to fairness? LOL

A question: where do you guys buy your music? Been listening to samples from James' list and I realise it'll be quite hard to find on my regular place. The Big 3 is one thing...

I bought my music in record shop, departement store and hypermarket!

Aaaah... If you love RPI... Do not forget these albums, LinusW:
GIANNI D'ERRICO: "Antico Teatro Da Camera"

ERA DI ACQUARIO: "Antologia"

ROCKY'S FILJ: "Storie Di Uomini E Non"

TOTO TORQUATI: "Gli Occhi Di Un Bambino"

EMILIO LOCURCIO: "L'Eliogabalo"

Certainly from obscure bands/ artists... But great albums (specially Toto Torquati, Gianni D'Errico and Rocky's Filj)!!!

There are a lot of online stores where you can get RPI albums, but for the best selection you should try BTF (www.btf.it). They also have better prices than most mainstream stores, and since you live in Europe you shouldn't get to pay too much for postage and packing.

For most of the contemporary Italian bands, the best way to buy their CD is directly by the official websites...

for my RPI Linus .. probably  50-50 online and buying in brick and mortars.  Even if the stores don't stock albums.. they can find them and order them.  You might even have better luck in Europe with that than I do in the states. Nothing beats walking into a music store here.. and finding 6.. yes.. I counted them once.. 6 different version of Blue Oyster Cult and various greatest hits collections.  Retail buying here sucks especially of course when it comes to prog.. or hahhah.. 'foreign' prog...... but special orders do get around that.

Lots of recommendations in the air right now...Guess I'll wait for that list of yours micky, and then sort out the favourites from that and James' for some "serious consideration". Just to have some kind of order in it.

Phew! Jet Lag is one of the toughest albums so far. It's just so...ill-defined and strange. But as I said earlier, still quite enjoyable. Thumbs%20Up

Yes, I confirm.

For PFM fans... Is only a 3 CDs compilation... But first official PFM official compilation...:
This is my review:

35.... E Un Minuto

by PREMIATA FORNERIA MARCONI

5%20stars My review is produced using this release: ny BMG Music Entertainment (Italy) S.p.A. 88697026472

Rating: 10/10

Intro: in this 2007 the reborn of RPI is complete. First for Delirium's live album. Second for New Trolls' reunion and album. Third for this compilation. 35 years of PFM's monicker. The story of Italian Prog and italy is here. This boys invented the RPI and today they forged still a very convincing albums (see "Stati Di Immaginazione) like in 1972 or 1980 or 1997. This compilation is a incredible must for all Progsters because is the story of 35 years of Prog, not only of italian prog. The years and the styles changed but... PFM remain!

CD 1: The probable titles is: "The Prog Years". from 1971 and the first single ("Impressioni Di Settembre"/ "La Carrozza Di Hans") to 1978 and "Passpatù" passed to "Dove... Quando", 2è Festa", "L'Isola Di Niente", "Dolcissima Maria"... and the songs with Bernardo Lanzetti are incredibles respect to the pecedent songs. In fact "traveller2 is a magical song that in "Storia Di Un Minuto" or "Per Un Amico" would have done a big figure. pratically the last great "Golden Era" song. Other words are superfluous.

CD 2: The probable title is "From POP To Disbanded. From Reunion to Return To Prog". In fact this CD represent the 80's, 90's and 00's. "Suonare Suonare" and "Come Ti Va In Riva Alla Città" are great albums. But not Prog. Then only a Jazzy POP albums. From 1997 (the reunion) with "Ulisse" is the period of "Opera Rock". Not better from other reunion. But "Ulisse" is the successor of Mussida's "Racconti Della Tenda Rossa" and the predecessor of the return to Prog aslbum (and correctly acclamated) "Stati Di Immaginazione" (2006). "Serendipity"'s songs "La Rivoluzione" and "KNA" aren't bad but not PFM; too modern. Great the studio extract from "Live In Japan" (2002) "Sea Of Memory" with a great Peter Hammill to the voice. A great PH song from PFM. Good the voice of Franz Di Cioccio. But the return to Prog is, strange but great, with an instrumental album.

CD 3: The probable title is: "The Best Live". Great start with the bootleg "21st Century Schizoid Man" from 1971. This version is extreme torrid and better than the KC's original. Franz is possessed and the drums... The rest of this CD is at the high level but Franz and its voice ruins some songs. Great the isertion of Fabrizio de André's "Il Pescatore from "De André/ PFM In Concerto" (recently remastered in one package [vol 1+ vol. 2]). For me this is the worst(?!?!?) of three CD. But with a lot positive surprises.

Conclusion: A must for all Progsters of the Worl,d "35... E Un Minuto" is the definitive PFM's album. Pratically obbligatory in every discography. Because PFM is the story of Prog. And a seal of quality.

I think it is worth waiting for...   I sense we have a lot of the same tastes and had a few, some great stuff that wasn't  on James' list that would be right up your alley....  I'll have it to you this weekend.  It's all the 'commentary' that takes so long.. and why I was so pissed at losing what I had for you before.
