I am planning on going, which would be my 6th Nearfest in the last 8 years.

You find a way when there's money...as a poor uni student that's one of the rarest things in the world, something other people got, unfortunately

I can afford the odd record now and then. And the occasional bottle of whiskey, to be enjoyed in the best of company. That's what's important right now. Uomo Di Pezza is getting a LOT of plays right now...

oh god... Whiskey... haven't touched that in years. My mentor drank Jack Daniels by the case... and I was a willing disciple in the church of drunken debauchery. I knew you'd love it... far and away my favorite from them... but they really are ALL great albums.. that album though... really hits hard. Love it. |

That one and L'Isola Di Niente are the only RPI albums I've reviewed the last week or so...been doing some other "forgotten" albums the last few days. And as I said earlier...really looking forward to that list of "forgotten" gems of the genre. Will be sure to read that through both one and five times

I see it that you've got your feet wet in way... you can go towards Banco the other of the big 3... but of the big 5 they honestly are the least listened to for me. But for Metamorfosi on their debut album... the track in contrast to the analogy I often make to my beloved Battiato albums..is a song you NEED to put on before heading out out on the town for a wild night out.
Lots of people swear on Darwin.. ehh... good album.. but it never 'grabbed' me. Io Sono Nato Libero might be my favorite album from them. of the 'lesser' of the big 5.. .ooohhh... I can't wait for you to 'discover' Osanna.. and the prog masterpiece that is Palepoli. Area is an incredible group as well. then there are .. all the gems.. the lesser known groups.. the single shot album groups.. so damn much to explore. I'll draw you up a list of something like that this weekend. in the meantime.. find Palepoli... this review by David says it all.. may have posted it here earlier... is in an eternal duel with Ys for favorite prog album ever... Review

^^ Really don't know what to make of that review, except that it sure made me curious
When it comes to Banco, I've listened to the samples here, but I've never felt that immediate attraction I want from albums...perhaps a pity. But I still feel I should try something else before them? Oh, what about Alphataurus? |

actually... his review is damn letter perfect... you simply have to listen to it to make sense of it... Oro Caldo is.. or was a sample here. Not bad.. literally half the album was a streaming sample here. Check it out if it still is there. ohhh... I'm not the person to ask... I like Alphataurus.. but have never seen like some have ..that it ranks as a masterpiece in the genre. Honestly.. when I put them in.. it is usually to hear the lead track Peccato d'Orgoglio which is a sample here.. .and a killer song.. but for me the rest of the album didn't hold up. However I am one of the few that I think feels that way.. a lot of people love that album. So who knows hahha. Edited by micky - April 11 2008 at 22:40 |

Appreciating that Osanna sample. Much to take in, though. Could be a great next move. We'll see. Keep them recommendations coming, especially if they have a sample to accompany them

Apparently, according to my listen of the samples here a moment ago, I need several Banco Del Mutuo Soccorso albums. I knew I should stay out of threads like this
Also, I felt that this'd be the place to fawn over Il Balletto Di Bronzo's Ys. |

the great thing is... as great as Oro Caldo is...the 2nd track on Palepoli.. Animale Senza Respiro... blows Oro Caldo away. Man alive is that a stunning track.
one more before I head off for the night... a sample from this album...not my favorite track from the album.. but I think you might love this album.. in my top 10 prog albums...not just from RPI. I adore this group and it's single album... http://www.progarchives.com/artist.asp?id=535 the track Un Palco di Marionette... simply a great piece of music. love it to death Edited by micky - April 11 2008 at 23:15 |
