Oy, how could I have forgotten about this? LOL

"I'm voting for X because Y sucks!"
"I'm voting for X. Y just don't know how to play their instruments..."
"I'm voting for X because Y has the worst fanbase ever!!"

Oh so many variations.

"Y is barely prog, whereas X is the GREATEST PROG BAND EVAR!!!111!" is one of my favorites.

Personal favorite, the constant stream of re-done threads - ex.  the DT crusade a while back. Top ten album polls, or the ever popular " Is X the new Y?"
anyway, i voted for "X is here, Y should be here." i get very frustrated when i see this and the posters always seem to fall back on it as they argue.

And you forgot that arguement clincher - only minus 2 copies are known to exist and I have all three. Or ... only 1 persons really gets their music, it is that artistic and ahead of its time. Or, if everyone heard this, it would sell a bazillion copies, because of its' obvious genius. Big%20smile

P.s. - my favourite is "If you knew prog/religion/art/politics/music/the entire whole of knowledge so far accumulated by humanity like I do, then you would agree/see/understand why you are sooooooooooooooooo   wrong ! I.E. not that I think I know everything, I KNOW I know everything !LOL

OOh OOh OOh .. just thought of one - he/she is a noobie. Rank outdoes reason.

OOh OOh OOh ... just thought of another one - "Objectively speaking" LOLLOLLOLLOLLOLLOLLOLLOLLOLLOLLOLLOLLOLLOLLOLLOLLOLLOLLOLLOLLOLLOLLOLLOLLOLLOLLOLLOLLOLLOLLOLLOLLOLLOLLOLLOLLOLLOLLOLLOLLOLLOLLOLLOLLOLLOLLOLLOLLOL
OOh OOh OOh ... here's another one - "How dare you question X^$%#&*, he knows more about prog than you'll ever be able to", which is usually used to buttress one's own side of the arguement. And I thought Erasmus was the last man considered to have known all the knowledge available in books of his time.

Definitely "if you don't like X, you are close minded".

But the "band X isn't prog/ is terrible/ overrated" is great. Congratulations, you have an opinion. Just as bad as the former in my opinion.

Seriously, I don't know why I find that so funny, but the 1840 joke is one of the best I've read in a long timeClap

None of the Above:

Labeling everything into really weird subgenres. Hearing things like "prog pop" in Yes/Genesis 80s, "Smart pop" in supertramp as a genre of music.

I know one of the most important;

"let's all laugh and joke about how we create repetitive threads, how we make ridiculousor pretentious posts, let's all comment about that, laugh and criticize ourselves.... then let's go back and do the same thing all over again!" WinkTongue

Is anybody forcing you to listen to any of this music? Nothing like an easy target to make some folks feel big.

I used to get into if x or y then H belongs, but I think David has a warning buzzer that goes off as soon as I type a Capital H on my computer.

Actually, in my case, yes, all too often.

If you are saying you are being forced to listen to rap or punk then you either have teenage kids or you live in a college dorm room, ha ha ha.
When I lived in the college dorms in 77 I had to listen to lots of mediocre stadium rock ie Nuegent, Aerosmith, Foreigner etc, I'm still not too fond of music like that, but I don't hate it now as much as I did back then.

You're not suggesting we go back to Peter vs Phil, X y or Z  vs DT, and other major esoteric discussions that took up much space in these hollowed (sic) pages. Confused
I thought you might be referring to me with the ridiculous or pretentious posts, until I noticed there was no mention of lengthy posts. Tongue
That and the perception that you've matured since your move up to the inner circle of PA. .

Don't forget the ever popular:

"I've no idea who X or Y are, but I'll put in an arbitrary vote for one of them + a generic reason to make me look like I've got an extensive music collection (whereas in reality I only own a poor cassette copy of Pallas's 'The Sentinel') and it also gives me something to do with my time in order to avoid having to face the horrific reality that is my dark, empty, meaningless, pointless existence, I hate being a teenager, I want my mum, and I want some milk & cookies, I appear to have soiled myself again"

Or is that just me...?
