No, because you have to drawn the line somewhere. You could make the case for any artist in the world to be in prog-related based off X then Y, so at some point you've got to say no.

If you didn't choose open-minded vs. close minded then you just don't GET it.

"[I use to like Band X, but] now everyone likes them I don't even think they are Prog"

"Band X are my favourite band of all time, therefore they are Prog"

"Band X were better before Y left."

"How can they be Prog? They wrote a song in 4/4 time."

"Which part of Prog Related didn't you understand?"

my favourite:

"Punk killed Prog"

What?

Ah, a slight variation on

'Close To The Edge is so overrated. Real men listen to Relayer.'

Also we have

'Album X has too much filler.'
'Album Y is pretentious.'
'Album Z isn't really prog, so is mediocre.'

My favorite is the "I'm gonna run a prog elimination tournament!" where they then proceed to fill the entire front page of the polls section with boring-as-hell "KC vs. Genesis!" polls for a month.

Actually, your biggest omission is this one:

"progressive metal, which isn't so prog anyway, was actually created by {name of band with absolutely ZERO metal in their music, but more generally accepted as "prog" therefore more politically correct to mention than, say, Metallica or Iron Maiden}"....

Some people pay good money for used panties.
(South Park Underwear ??? Profit!  reference)

Here's one I just thought of, though not said directly, it has been rather implied:

"Regressive Rock (i.e. Retro-Prog) saved Progressive Rock" or "the spirit of progressive rock continued past the 70's thanks to later bands that sounded like they were stuck in the '70s."

I'd vote for either "2.5 stars really" or "ha ha ha" from two of our most loved contributors who shall remain nameless.

I get a kick out of gratuitous put-downs of rap and punk.

Is anybody forcing you to listen to any of this music? Nothing like an easy target to make some folks feel big.

I used to get into if x or y then H belongs, but I think David has a warning buzzer that goes off as soon as I type a Capital H on my computer.

Besides the one I mentioned, the most ridiculous one is "you don't like rap (punk, whatever), therefore you're close minded. I like them, so I'm open minded".

I love the "Which is your favorite" polls.  They're always so constructive and positive.  No one would ever think to make ridiculous, baseless, and denigrating comments about the other bands mentioned to defend their choice.

Oy, how could I have forgotten about this? LOL

"I'm voting for X because Y sucks!"
"I'm voting for X. Y just don't know how to play their instruments..."
"I'm voting for X because Y has the worst fanbase ever!!"
