Then they went ahead and ruined that spark with 2112.

Ham-fisted and over-worked, 2112 (the song) sucked the life out of the fire that Caress had forged. Rush has had a long history of choosing refinement over passion (it took them 20 years to release Different Stages disc 3).

I love them to death, but they could've let go of the reigns a little - it would've helped 2112 (and Roll The Bones and Test For Echo, too).

Listening since 1980

So it seems that Rush, or Alex Lifeson was honored by Guitar Player. Some pretty big awards too. Check it out.

Best Article in 2007 - Different Strings - Alex Lifeson

Best Rock Guitarist - Alex Lifeson

2007's Most Ferociously Brilliant Guitar Album - Rush: Snakes & Arrows

We Rush fans knew that S&A was a top notch effort by Alex. Not to mention, a heck of an album regardless what the rating is here.

I think voting has ended and now we're just awaiting the results. DPRP normally posts them around April or May, so hopefully here soon.

Now that is one lucky kid! Nice to see Alex step up too. That was beyond the call of duty.

Though not to the extent of this lucky little lad, I do have a blue Alex Lifeson guitar pick tacked to my monitor here at work.

And at the risk of name dropping, I briefly got to meet both Alex and Geddy prior to the Rush show last summer and Lifeson seems EXTREMELY friendly. He greets you with the biggest smile. Without name dropping again, when I e-mailed the person who scored us passes to the meet-n-greet and asked him if Alex is really like that, he said, "Yes. He's a very sweet guy."

Welcome to PA and Rush Fan Central.  My personal favorite is probably Moving Pictures, but I pretty much am a fan of everything done by Rush.  I believe that generally A Farewell to Kings and Hemispheres are the 2 favorite albums of many members on PA.  Which is your favorite?

Cool beans, another Rush fan. Welcome!

Best Rush album? Tough call. Possibly Hemispheres. Each tune kicks butt on it and it is debatable that it is the band's most progressive effort.

If I had to pick a "best", this would probably be it, but it's very difficult.  The consistent quality of this band's output over the years has been nothing short of amazing.

It was the first one I heard and it basically changed the way I listened to music from about 14 years of age on. Extremely pivotal album for me. And "The Camera Eye" reigns as one of my favorite Rush tunes.

Hm. My favourite Rush albums are Caress Of Steel and 2112, depending on the day, with a slight bias towards the former. I like the later stuff, but they just don't get me in the same way. Cygnus X-I and The Necromancer probably come off as my favourite songs. Best opener would be 2112 or Bastille Day, and best closer would be Cygnus X-I with a nod to Vital Signs.
