That is such a damn good track - I rank it up there with the best of Rush.

Couldn't agree more, Pat. Perfectly arranged and produced. Really proud of the boys for what they did for Snakes & Arrows. I haven't really said that about a Rush album since Signals.

I used to think "The Spirit Of Radio" from Permanent Waves, "Subdivisions" starting off Signals or "The Big Money" kicking off Power Windows was great; however, "Far Cry" could get my vote these days.

"Bastille Day" to open up Caress of Steel, although I think the song following "I Think I'm Going Bald" has to be the worst song Rush has written, IMO, of course Big%20smile

Far Cry isn't bad but it goes on for way too long. One of my pet peeves in music is when the chorus is repeated over and over again (which is one of my problems with S&A). I'd like to hear the radio edit though; I think it's abou 50 seconds shorter than the album version.

Almost every Rush album has a spectacular album opener though, and oftentimes is the best song on the album imo, especially with the post-GUP albums.

Hm. Best Rush opener I've heard is probably the 2112 Overture, though I'm *still* waiting for two more Rush albums to arrive to augment my current four.

Animate or Distant Early Warning as best opener. Both songs really sets the tone for their respective album, plus they do what they are supposed to, in giving the album a flying start.

I think there was a poll some time ago about the best Rush opener, as these days there is one around about the best Jethro Tull opener. Our favourite Canadians are indeed masters of the opening track, while (in my very humble opinion) they've rarely been equally successful with their album closers. That said, I do agree with LinusW about "Animate" (a song about women, btw) and "Distant Early Warning". Other favourites of mine are "Dreamline", "Test for Echo"  and "Show Don't Tell".

Nice taste there, Ghost Rider Wink. I'll have to agree with you on the other you mentioned as well. Although the later albums sometimes lack in consistency, many of them have stand-out openers.

if it's one thing i admire is that every single phrase, riff, solo, sound effect, concept etc Rush have played during their entire time being, i have heard it by any other prog band from 1992 to date...

-music is like pornography...

sometimes amateurs turn us on, even more...

-sometimes you are the pigeon and sometimes you are the statue...

Of all the great openers, I actually think my favorite might be Anthem.  Hearing those first few power chords by Alex and then Neil announce his presence with authority...man that's good.  Thumbs%20Up

2112 is the ultimate opener. The slow sweep building atmosphere and tension and then... Duh duh! Duh duh duh! Duh duh duh!

Got Permanent Waves and Moving Pictures yesterday. TBH, I prefer the latter, and I really miss Lee's high voice, and I don't like some of the lyrics to those two, but still strong albums.

Just first impressions anyway.

OMG!  Last night I watched for the first time "Anatomy of a Drum Solo". It totally helped re-established my faith in Neil as a drum god. He broke down the elements of his solo in something a little more digestible. This is a must see for any Rush fan.
