From Myspace:

Lightbulb Sun reissue

A brand new edition of the long out of print 2000 Porcupine Tree studio album "Lightbulb Sun" will be issued next month.

Along with "Recordings" (also due for reissue later this year) the album is the missing part of the PT discography. It contains the original studio versions of PT favorites such as Shesmovedon, Russia On Ice, Hatesong, and Feel So Low, and has been lavishly revamped into a definitive 2 disc set. Disc one is a CD containing a pristine remix / remaster of the album, while disc two is a DVDA (playable on any DVD player) containing the album remixed into 5.1 surround sound (in DVDA and DTS versions), as well as a 24 bit high resolution version of the stereo mix, and the original 2000 mix/master. Also included are 5.1 mixes of bonus tracks Disappear, Buying New Soul, and Cure for Optimism, which were recorded during the same sessions. This is the definitive version of one of the essential albums in the PT catalogue.

The album is officially released on 21st April through KScope / Snapper, but is available to pre-order now from the PT Store - these pre-orders will ship 2 weeks earlier. Please note that due to the very weak dollar we are unable to compete with prices at US retail outlets like Amazon, so to make savings on both the price and the shipping costs we do suggest that US customers wait until the album is officially released.

I love you Steve Wilson. I hate you weak US dollar. I will do anything for you Steve Wilson.

I am about to explode asplode.

No kidding.  I'll have to try to curb my jealousy as I read the glowing reviews of the album on PA for months while I wait for Amazon or CD Universe to make it available.  Probably make a nice Christmas present!  Angry

Yep - unless you're an uber-PT fan and are willing to shell out $22+shipping to get it from the PT store.  I've waited this long, so I can wait some more and just get it from Amazon.  Great news, though - I had been waiting for this announcement for some time.

Great news, but I already have a special 2 disc edition of Lightbulb Sun's first edition, and also possess a numbered copy of Recordings.

We must acknowledge Steven Wilson's knack for marketing/merchandising though... he (or his team) has been quite good at it for some time now (special editions, limited editions, re-releases, etc...).

Confused

Still admire his work so much though, especially in PT and his production duties he did for Opeth.

^ But if you're going to reissue something, you might as well do it right. They were out of print.

As something of a recent PT convert, I've actually had this on MP3 (along with Recordings) for a couple of years.  It's only been this past winter that I've given it serious listens.  I will be buying this for sure, as well as Recordings.

I have been waiting for this news for SO LONG!  I can finally complete my PT studio album collection.  I have been checking The Seaweed Farm everyday for updates on the album and it's about time!  So then it appears that Recordings will be officially rereleased?

An update with a bonus cd offer - only for pre-orders.  Being in the U.S., I was planning to wait.  Not anymore - just bit the bullet and pre-ordered.

From the PT website http://www.porcupinetree.com/news.cfm#1542

03-12-2008

For a limited time all copies of the new Lightbulb Sun reissue that are ordered from the PT Store will receive a bonus CD containing 2 rarities from the Lightbulb Sun era. "Novak" is an instrumental which was originally issued on the B-side of the 7 inch single of Shesmovedon, but which has never been released on CD before. "Buying New Soul (original instrumental track)" is the backing track as it was cut live in the studio by the band - at 14.27 it runs almost 4 minutes longer than the finished version since a whole section was removed before being overdubbed with vocals for release on the Recordings CD. Note that all orders already placed will automatically have this CD added to their order. The CD is not available to purchase separately and is only included with orders including the pre-order of the 2 disc reissue of Lightbulb Sun.

Lightbulb Sun is also in preparation for release as a 2LP vinyl edition.

^ That's all I needed to hear to put in advance order for the CD/DVDA - bonus material.  $30 US including shipping.  Really looking forward to this release since I didn't know of PT in their earlier days.

Released date are often when it it impacted you but recorded dates are when it really happened...
