Love them all, but I'm not really surprised you don't (except for Soft Machine's second album). The only band I really feel I should dig but don't, is Hawkwind. Most of my trusted friends love them, and I know Baldjean/friede does too. I don't hear anything exiting in their version of spacy progrock, although I'm a fan of the genre. Most other bands that has failed to impress me, are not that surprising (maybe except Guru Guru, Sleepytime Gorilla Museum and most of the spanish progscene. I only really liked Fusioon)

The whole point of the thread was not to bash bands you don't like, that's why it was worded ' you should like'. So be respectful as in, I should like Yes, when I tell people my favorite band is PG era Genesis, lots of them say, ' so you must like Yes'. All of the members of Yes are excellent musicians, the style is symphonic I should like them, but I've never grown used to Jon's voice. I've tired for years because I feel I must be missing something, but alas decades pass and still I can't enjoy Yes.

I've tried many times but Cottonwood Hill by Brainticket just doesn't do it for me. It has all the elements of a psych/kraut classic but it just annoys me.

No point bashing the bands I don't like.You have a very good point.
I do hold most of the bands I don't like albums.Simply due to the fact that they were majour acts of their day,and I feel they need to be represented in the archive.And being a stingey sort of fella I don't like letting albums go for pittence,so they stay there.After all they don't take up much space,and they are not hurting anyone by being there.Still dispite of me not liking them,these bands still deserve respect for what they done musically and they have introduced many people to prog over the years,and will continue to do so for many years to come.

I'm glad, in a way, to see many here that can't get into Genesis, because I always thought there was "something wrong with me" when albums like Foxtrot were being praised to the heavens - I don't hate that record, but I can't place it anywhere near the top prog albums of my collection. Like micky, the one exception here for me is Selling England which I do consider brilliant - love every second of music on it.
Some of the more popular prog groups around like early Floyd and Jethro Tull do nothing for me.
One prog-metal outfit that is hugely popular here is Pain of Salvation. Given that I like Dream Theater, Riverside, et. al. I thought they would be a good fit for me, but the one album I purchased did nothing for me and will now collect dust.

 you are not alone my friend. As I said before... I am predisposed to more aggressive.. and less subtle music Not to say I don't like it if is isn't fiery and passionate. I have fallen completely for Battiato's music.. and there isn't an aggressive bone in his body. It is a bit easy to think there is something wrong with you when everyone seemingly loves Genesis.. purveyors of average music... average lyrcis.. average everything damnit hahha.. yet are praised here as if God himself reached down and put Gabriel in a red dress. There are people here who I respect completely in knowledge ..both musically and prog-wise that swear on that group. So I can't just generalize and say... pretty much what I said earlier in this thread with regards to me personally.. that something like Supper's Ready is a nice track.. but put against some lesser known 'epics' it simply is nothing but an average performance. I can't hold the sword and shield of saying that IF you knew more than the 'same old ...same old.' you would see things the same way I do. For many here love that song ..and know as much.. or more than I do. That isn't the case... much as I would love it TO be hahha. It to me encapsulates my feelings about the group.. nice... but not anything that merits the regard others give it. Maybe it is me perhaps.. Anyhow... we are love what we love ..and that is the beauty of music.. and prog. Like art... for one...it might draw you in and changes your life... to the next person... 'eehhhh.. not bad... but where's the paintings of naked chicks'.... and the next person might be repulsed by it... which is as powerful and great a reaction as the other extreme. That is what prog is about...

For a long time, Bacamarte, but I've warmed up to them recently. But, besides the second song which royally owns, Pseu have eluded me for a while now. C'est Mortel are right up my alley, but I have to stop after a while because I feel like harm is being done to my soul. It's a strange feeling.

NONSENSE I think ELP sound much more rock n roll than jethro or yes. They sound much more aggressive and boisterous despite being keyboard based. I think ELP are one of the most creative, adventurous and exciting progbands there is. Lot of fun too. Not as boring as King Crimson with Robert Fripp's never-ending noodling. What a snooze-fest. Ive reached the point where I dont slate that I am not interested in any band, but that I just cant feel them at the moment or havnt yet given them a good listen. I find most dark and evil bands I have had the hardest time adjusting to.
For example, VDGG hit me with refugess and i absolutely loved it, but listening to the rest of their material I really did not like anything, and today I like almost all of it.
Jan Dukes de Grey, Comus, Il Balletto di Bronzo, and even darker...I had a really difficult time seeing why people loved these bands and their album(s). After a rough bit of anxiety in my life I now see alot more to them, I think you need to kind of be a bit bitter when you take listen. I love most of them now, and listen often.
I think I get bored with certain things sometimes also, and have adjusted to liking more complex and crazy stuff, this is why I used to hate Gentle Giant and now they are THE BEST!

nice to see you around Brian... haven't seen you around much. Glad to see you stuck with Balletto di Bronzo.. easy... it is my single favorite album...as you know well..... life isn't all love, peace, and walks in the moonlight... and if ever you need a soundtrack for 'air keyboarding' 'air guitaring' and 'air drumming' every damn bit of frustration and anger out of you... that is the album. and that album taught me that 'air keyboards' smoke 'air guitar'...
