Topic: Kate Bush - Aerial Posted: March 08 2007 at 04:19 |
best song?
I like Pi, kinda geeky but still awesome.
I prefer disc one (A Sea of Honey) to disc two (A Sky of Honey) but overall a pretty good album with quite a few memorable tunes.
I tried falling asleep to it tonight, but I just want to keep listening its so unique the vocals, lyrics, music, concept its all obscure but it works.
Do you like this album? Which disc is better to you? What's your favorite song? Discuss, please.

My actual favourite is "Mrs Bartolozzi", with its poignant lyrics about a woman deserted by her man, and fantastic, emotional singing by Kate. I also prefer Disc One to Disc Two, though I find the whole album a real masterpiece.
BTW, as Kate is in Prog-Related, this poll should be moved to the PP/PR Lounge.

I picked up Arial last April and was not disapointed. After listening to Pi I had to replay it over and over a few more times, I love the whole album though. As GR said "a real masterpiece".

That's easy, "Sunset" is the best, especially when it goes into the latin guitar bit. A great album, especially the second concept CD, it has a really nice feel to it.
Sorry Rafaella, I don't really like Mrs Bartolozzi and all that "slooshy slooshy" stuff!

I think Aerial is one of her best albums along with Hounds of Love and The Dreaming, but I like the second disc a lot more than the first one. My favourite songs are Nocturn and Sunset.

So, how come Nocturn has no votes and Sunset has just my vote?

King of The Mountain.
I love the drums on that ..the way it starts...everything in fact.
The whole album is a great listen during a warm summer evening resting on a lounger sipping an alcholic beverage of some sort....lovely.

I must have forgotten to actually vote, so I'll do it now.

'A sky of Honey' is the best disc IMO, and choosing abest track from that suite is very difficult. I decided on 'Nocturn'but that whole disc is excellent, and I like to listen to it as one piece, like 'The Ninth Wave' from the Hounds of Love album.
I think Aerial is Kates third best album, after Hounds of Love and Never Forver. What a fantastic comeback!

I found this album a great disappointment, and I'm glad I listened to it in my mate's house instead of going out and buying it myself. I think it is quite weak in parts, 'Washing Machine' and 'Bertie' are embarrassing to listen to. But that's just me. IMO her best work was back in the early days of her career.
However, I quite enjoy the last track, 'Aerial', so I voted for that.

I think the first disc is relativley weak. If she'd released that as the album on its own, it would have ranked alongside Lionheart as her joint worst album. Not terrible just weak. A 2.5 star album perhaps. IMO.

'The Kick Inside' is an excellent album. It's as good a place as any to start.
Her most prog albums are - starting with the most prog - 'The Dreaming' 'Hounds of Love' 'Aerial' and 'Never Forever' ..
IMO..

i really disliked this album, it had none of the passion of her earlier stuff and was less eclectic. also it was filled with horrible synths. The Dreaming is my favourite of her albums

How do you know the woman has been deserted? I say "Mrs. Bartolozzi" is a song about a woman whose loved one has died, that's why the shirt "looks so alive!"

AERIAL is just a flat out brilliant work covering the spectrum of subjects and emotions from the most common and everyday to the most exhilirating and ecstatic. It's puzzling, cozy, warm, beautiful, and off-putting all at once, and, coming from the genius of Kate Bush, I wouldn't wantor expect it to be any other way.
