OK, I'll bite... In cronological order and with an eye on variety, while omitting some of the more obvious choices already mentioned many many times in this thread. (Doesn't mean I don't truly love most of them.)

1. Martin Barre - We Used to Know (Jethro Tull)
Not one but *two* excellent solos and all too hard to choose between them... Bliss.

2. Peter Jennings - Depression (Cressida)
The last few minutes feature a veritable guitar-organ fest, with the guitar solo building things up and then the organ, played by Jennings, bringing it all to a brilliant end.

3. Jan Akkerman - Birth (Focus)
Oh man, his tone is the best ever...and the playing sounds so unique; kind of restrained, assured and rocking all at the same time. Wonderful!

4. Steve Howe - Sound Chaser (Yes)
Coolness! Howe is all over the place on this and yet he keeps it all nicely together like the true master he is.

5. Tony Banks - Mad Man Moon (Genesis)
The "kid brother" to Firth of Fifth, heh. I love FoF as much as the next person but piano-wise MMM is another excuisite Banks highlight.

6. David Gilmour - Hey You (Pink Floyd)
Comfortably Numb is fantastic but I still think I slightly prefer the solo on this one.

7. Alex Lifeson - 1st solo on Natural Science (Rush)
Always been a Rush highlight for me... Classic stuff from Alex. The solo fits the song really well.

8. Daniel Gildenlöw - People Passing By (Pain Of Salvation)
Towards the end of this track one can find a typically powerful and emotional solo from our Daniel. He really knows how to squeeze everything out from every note on that guitar...

9. Johnny Greenwood - Lucky (Radiohead)
Far from reaching prog's lofty heights, perhaps, but oh, how I love it still! Perfect example of a solo that fits the mood and the structure of the song - my favourite Radiohead song at that - to a tee.

10. Steven Wilson - Stranger By The Minute (Porcupine Tree)
A shamelessly poppish solo, which always, always puts a smile on my face whenever I hear it.

Heck, I can't remember if I posted in this thread in the past and I'm certainly not going to go through 13 pages of posts to find out, but my favorite solo as of now is Alan Holdsworth's solo in UK's first, self-named album, in the track "In The Dead Of Night." It reminds me of the imagination and seeming disregard of what is going on musically (although it all fits together) that Fripp shows in 21'st Century Man, which I would choose for my second choice.

Right now, I'd say Hackett's guitar solo on Firth of Fifth (a masterpiece) and Emerson's Hoedown for keyboards, but I've got so many others in mind... these days I'm listening mainly to those two solos.

I love Confortably Numb solo
The small keyboard vs. guitar battle in the Speed King by Deep Purple
solo from Balck sabbath´s Past Lives - Wicked World is also one of the greatest
but Led Zeppelin´s BBC Sessions disc2 contains the 18min. version of Dazed and Confused, dear people there is 6min. absolutely psycho solo when both Page and Jones play by fiddlesticks on their guitars and than comes the 10min. solo of whole band unbelievable improvisation by Page, impassable bass solo of Jones, Bonham´s jazz jamming on the drums and also Plant´s contribution of voice...The best jamming song ever it is...

Well dug out, although personally I think that the closing solo on Early Birth is even better. Fantastic end to a fantastic album.
