For some this will be a big loss. Buddy Miles played with many of the legends of rock and was successful on his own. Obviously his high point was as a member of the Band of Gypsys with Jimi Hendrix recording one of the best live albums of all time. He had been in declining health for many years.

Buddy worked with a who's who of late-Sixties/early-70's guitarists:
Jimi Hendrix, as mentioned
Mike Bloomfield, in Electric Flag
John McLaughlin, on Devotion
Jim McCarty, in Buddy Miles Express
Carlos Santana (forget the album title)
Pretty good credential if you ask me.

That is indeed a big loss to the music world. Yet another link to Hendrix gone.
He also had a good singing voice too, as well as his drumming skills, of course. Despite the fact that Band of Gypsys was supposed to be a contractual album and Hendrix supposedly didn't like it, it's actually one of his best contributions musically. Machine Gun is a classic. In pace, requiescat, Buddy Miles. Edited by James - February 27 2008 at 20:35 |

BoG is one of the great rock albums.. in fact everything from that tour is great even though by '70 Hendrix had changed the Gypsys line up

Sad News
I think the Carlos Santana collaboration found them with equal billing and was called simply Live - recorded live in an extinct volcano in Hawaii and included a John McLaughlin cover???
Add: working on one Jeff Berlin album

A great loss - I like 'Band of Gypsys' live at Fillmore East with Buddy Miles on drums and vocals
And Buddy will remain at least as a part of the Progarchives discography Carlos Santana And Buddy Miles - Live! R.I.P. |

It's sad to hear. I like his work with Hendrix. I haven't heard anything else, unfortunately.
