Rush Fan Central

I had "Vital Signs" in my head, so I listened to Moving Pictures in the car yesterday.  One of those albums that fits like an old glove - dependable and never disappoints.

My first Rush album (heard mostly on the radio) was Permanent Waves.  I remember seeing the band mentioned in connection with US and UK charts, and was intrigued by the song titles. Having been into prog for some years, I realised there was something there that had the potential to capture my attention... When I heard some of their earlier work, namely the wonderful Xanadu, I was well and truly hooked.

My first rush was Moving Pictures.... continuedwith Signals.. and fell off the bandwagon there after that.  I  went back to the older albums.  Where I fell in love with Caress of Steel.  As I've posted many times... really enjoy the campy 70's stuff...  the lyrics are silly at best.. and downright stupid at worst but man alive was the music some great stuff.

Glad that you like some Rush...you're going to be hearing a lot more of them in your future

trust me.. if she didn't see through my 'crap' about Rush.. we wouldn't have had a chance hahah.

oh you'll have a blast

My first Rush album was "Caress of Steel"; I was 16 when I bought it and I've loved it more than any other Rush album ever after. I admit that there are better albums in Rush's production, but with "Caress..." it was love at first sight. "The Valley" and "The Fountain" sound so mature and accomplished; they almost touch perfection.

Based on my impressions as a Rush fan for nearly five years now, GUP is a record that has "gotten its due" in recent years. I remember being on the Rush message board called Counterparts in 2003, reading about the various albums before I took the dive and bought some myself, and GUP always seemed to be near the bottom on people's lists, with only few diehards really loving it. Based on that, my expectations for the record were pretty low at best at the time I bought it, but what do you know, I loved it from get-go! I've always found it a very passionate sounding record, with Geddy at his most intense vocally speaking, and Alex's soaring, engaging guitar work at the centre of things. The band had a hard time making GUP and I suppose the impact of the various srtuggles can be heard in the music, but not in a negative way at all IMO. It's heartfelt and honest. A permanent top three record on my Rush list.

I so wish I could see a show on the upcoming NAn tour! I *loved* the setlist for the S&A tour last year when they visited Helsinki for the first time ever. I managed to keep pretty much all of it as a surprise for myself so the musical high of hearing such old gems like Circumstances and Entre Nous being performed was even greater that way!

Got my tickets this week-end for the 12th of June concert in Montreal.

Best album opener?

I used to think "The Spirit Of Radio" from Permanent Waves, "Subdivisions" starting off Signals or "The Big Money" kicking off Power Windows was great; however, "Far Cry" could get my vote these days.
