And here we see the last of the great romantics...

I can imagine the conversation at the beginning of the evening:

"Hallo darling - I've lined up a meal for us at a lovely organic restaurant on this, the most romantic evening of the year; before we go, though, here's my latest invoice..."

Actually, I didn't ask her for the money, Jim, I was happy to wait for it.  I ordered our Nightwish tickets online and that's what she owed me for and she insisted on paying for her meal and then adding the £17 on top of it and then I paid the difference.

She's great like that. Wink

I am writing on the behalf of every college student in America when i say that I AM SICK OF UG BOOTS, NORTHFACE JACKETS, AND F**KING BLACK LEGGINGS!!!!!! I got behind a group of 12 or so girls yesterday who were all dressed EXACTLY THE SAME. It really pissed me off. Im still kinda mad. what happened to originality? it all got processed by the cooperate main stream and fed back to us. look at the emo crowd. they are being "original". they are expressing themselves. look at how depressing their lives are. Its like the level of their despair can be measured by the darkness of their eye shadow and the length of their bangs. THEY ALL LOOK THE SAME! Is every one in a clique? Is there truly no way to be original or unique? you are forced to buy cloths from one of four or five outfitters, if you chose not to make them yourself which is, lets face it, less than practical. Is it even possible when you have no choice but to consume what these 4 or 5 companies want you to? its an illusion of choice. Every thing is owned, nothing is new, its all marketed and  targeted at me. at us. F*ck globalization. Thats an Ug boot on your foot and a Wal-Mart down the street. which department store sofa reflects my personality? which cookie cutter look do i wear today? "Self improvement is masturbation." so says tyler and i believe him. Seriously, what the f*ck?

I refused to buy chocolates and flowers... besides, my girlfriend is not a flower person at all.

Who said that romance was dying out in the UK. LOL  Did you give her a receipt?

Oh no. I thought I'd escape this fashion trend once I left high school. Cry
Seriously, my sister's in middle school and she and all of her friends are wearing the exact same thing. It's annoying as hell.

These days, it's more non-comformist to dress normally and not follow the 'non-conformist' fashion trends.
Luckily Australia doesn't have Walmart. Unluckily, we have a shop in the city center of Melbourne called Dangerfield, where all the 'non comformist' kids go to buy there 'unique and individual' clothes just like their 20 other friends haveAngry

I do have 4 band shirts, which are of course other than the print on it, black. Tight jeans just aren't my thing, although even with my relatively baggy black jeans I wear, I've been called 'emo'Angry.
And I saw Maiden live 2 weeks ago

Who on earth taught everyone from the north of England to talk like a football player? Whoever it was, tell them I hate them. I believe that language is entirely for communication, so all many locals (I'm a southerner in the north) communicate to me via speech is complete mental vacancy. I like the internet more and more. ;P

Why do European women love English footballers?  Because they can be on top for 80 minutes and still come second.LOL

OK time for a rant...

This follows on from the execrable BBC Saturday night shows to choose a Joseph and a Maria for those horrid west end shows that the great theatreland toad-lord himself (Andrew Lloyd Webber, for it is he) still churns out in favour of honest & innovative productions which may actually stretch the minds of theatregoers as opposed to stretching the seats themselves by packing theaters with the lowest common demoninator MacIntestine munching wobbling classes (again, for it is they) to see yet another re-hash of shows which were creakingly out of date in the 1970s.

So what's next you ask?

Which classic stage roles are they going to attempt to cast on prime time TV from the morass of theatre school rejected wannabees who will descend on BBC TV Centre in a vain attempt to get either their Warholian 15 minutes of fame on the London stage (or at least be shown in a humourous 'let's look at the crap ones who failed' segment)?

Oliver Twist & Nancy.

Great.

Not only are they now going to get the same flood of hopeless hopefulls who strutted their over-confident yet under-talented stuff for the part of Maria, but they will be doing the same with 11 year old boys, who would no doubt be perfectly happy to continue their lives as normal until an overbearing & over ambitious mother figure who will make Roger Waters's phantasmagorical haridan look like Mother Theresa by comparison (TV Centre will echo to massed cries of "eyes and teeth, Tarquin - eyes and teeth!!") pushes them into the forefront of their vicarious ambition for the sake of maybe a few minutes on TV with all the subtelty of Romans throwing christians to the lions - THESE ARE YOUR CHILDREN FOR 's SAKE!

And to whose tender mercies will these young boys be thrown...?

I rest my case!

Good rant, Jim, and I concur 100%

Reminds me of an epsiode of The League of Gentlemen, where a little girl was being pushed through some auditions by, as you rightly put it, an 'over bearing and over ambitious mother' The comic performances were hilarious, but the observations made by the script writers were very real, and very damning of this 'type'...

I'm sick to the back teeth of Norton, Lloyd-Webber and these days, that John Barroman (sp?) is getting on my t!ts too.
