Hm. Not sure who I'd replace, and it'd probably end up with Asia + David Byron.

Howe - Guitars
Downes - Keyboards
Wetton - Bass
Byron - Vocals
Palmer - Drums

well, anyone want to write some Yes fan fiction?

Ok, here's MY line-up!!!!   I call them the Y-Men!!!

Chris Squire ---   CODENAME:   THE FISH

Leader of the Y-Men

Superpowers  --   Well, he was bitten by a radioactive minnow when he was little and he has the proportionate strength and agility of a rainbow trout.   Um yeah, that's it.  Oh, and he can drink like a fish too.

Jon Anderson -- CODENAME:  WHITE BUFFALO

Superpowers  --  He's like some kind of North American/Hawaiian mystical shaman, and he can summon powerful animals out of the spirit world to help the Y-Men.

Steve Howe --  CODENAME:  LASERFINGERS

Superpowers -- That's right, he shoots multicolored lasers out of his fingers.   You got a problem with that?

Alan White -- CODENAME:  THE REPLACEMENT

Superpowers -- He can mimic the superpowers of any other being after he has been exposed to them.  That's how he came up with In The Presence Of, btw.

Rick Wakeman --  CODENAME:  THE CAPED CRUSADER

Superpowers -- He doesn't have any superpowers, but the WakeCave is stocked with all kinds of neat crimefighting equipment, including WakeCopters, WakeBoats, WakeMobiles, and a couple of broken birotrons.

Jon had spelled out the idea to Steve. He liked it, and the two of them at once began holding sessions by candlelight in their hotel rooms. By the time they reached Savannah, Georgia, things had come together very clearly. There, during one six hour session, which carried on until 7AM...

and so on.

For me Anderson, Howe, Squire and White have been more or less the heart of the band and the sum of the parts is less than the whole.

the only parameters: stay with the tested five-instruments personnel and your version

1970's | Met At  English Boarding School Lineup

Tony Kaye - keys
Jimmy Page - guitars
Phil Collins - drums
Chris Squire - bass
Fish - vox

Good lord, this would've been colossal. Bluesy and brutal with occasional lighter 12 string / Hammond touches - great harmonies (something Marillion could've used).

Favorite track imagined - Perpetual Change

1980's | Jazz Fusion Lineup

Trevor Horn - vox
Bill Bruford  - drums
Vangelis - keys
Kazumi Watanabe - guitars
Tony Levin - bass / stick

Think about it. Drama-esque soundtrack jazz, with jaw-dropping bottom end.

Favorite track imagined - Awaken

1990's | Let's Make Every Album One 60 Minute Ambient Song Lineup

David Sylvian - vox
Andy Summers - guitars
Stewart Copeland - drums
Geoff Downes - keys
Trevor Horn - bass

Right. Drama-esque ambient drum-n-bass, echoplex and guitar synthesizer, David's baritone croon.

Favorite track imagined - Run Through The Light...really really s-l-o-w

Let's twist this up a bit...

Jon Anderson: drums (yes, I said drums!)
Bill Bruford: bass (yes, I said bass!)
Abe Vigoda: guitars (I kid you not!)
Sherman Hemsley: keyboards
Barry "Greg Brady" Williams: vocals (yes!)

What about Vangelis on keyboards? It could nearly happened once...

The rest of line-up would be:

vocals: Jon Anderson
guitar: Steve Howe
bass: Chris Squire
drums: Alan White

Yeah. I remember that.

I would've welcomed it. I have a love (Close To The Edge) / hate (Turn Of The Century/Wondrous Stories) relationship with Wakeman.
