I think "well obviously" is just one of the many phrases that the Westminster spin doctors tell polititions to use when the answer isn't obvious at all. It throws the disarray back on the listener and interviewer who, if inexperienced in political bullsh!t, think that they've missed something. The only obviousthing to me in any of these interviews is that the only belief most politicians hold these days is the belief that they need to keep the Murdoch press sweet.

F**k Valentine's Day. It is the hollowest holiday of the year. It means obligatory material displays of affection for those in couples, and it is a searing reminder of solitude for the rest of us. I don't care if the holiday only benefits women, it was unquestionably created by a man. All romance is relegated to this day so men don't have to pay attention to their significant others the rest of the - ing year. God -ing forbid you do something out of actual love rather than to fulfill the contractual oath of Valentine's Day. Huh, should I tell her how she is the best part of my life and that every day I wake up feeling happy and whole? that, I'll just get her a card that says "Will you be mine?" and buy some necklace she'll never wear cause you don't know what jewelry is good, do you, you dumb ? I know St. Valentine was martyred. I hope it was slow and agonizing, and I hope that every Valentine's Day Satan gives him a -ing pearl necklace. Yeah, I said it.

You and me both Jared ; for Radio news, you can do little better than Radio 4 & as far as TV is concerned, Channel 4's 7 o/c news has been in the vanguard since the TV station came on air in the 1980s.

It's a similar expression to my pet hate one "well, basically"; the use of this phrase usually means the interviewee actually knows very little about the subject in question, so will give a small soundbite answer (again, courtesy of a spin-doctor) to avoid having to fully answer the question.

Now now, Iareyay, I had a smashing good time last night. I went to a specialist organic food pub, had a wonderful meal and not once did my partner and I debate our love for each other or anything, it was really good. She also enjoyed herself and it was a good day overall.
I do agree that it is a bit of a pointless exercise though, because one should not need a special day to express ones love for someone.
I did get a card from her and I bought her one, but being as I am not a traditionalist, I bought a plain card, with no greetings or anything in and wrote my own message in it. It's much better than buying one with a silly pre-written message in, plus it does not have a silly image or greeting on the front either.
Luckily for me too, my girlfriend was not expecting flowers or chocolates, which made my life immensely easier.

Have you seen the BBC Breakfast news in recent years? It's moved almost totally over to the GMTV format. They even have a doctor who comes in every day to tell us to eat our vegetables, and they spend license payers money on sending one of their bimbos to Hollywood to cover the Oscars. It's truly awful..

That's with Dermot Murnaghan and that Sian woman? They have that awful sofa thing going on and no desk, it's very silly. I've also wondered (apart from the obvious reason) for a while now why on earth Natasha Kerplunky has moved to Channel 5.... that's not exactly doing her career much good, now is it? Channel 5 is a ghost station... but now they have Neighbours, well they may get a few more viewers.

Yep! F**k it indeed!
What a steaming pile of horse sh!t Valentines day is. It goes without saying that it is nothing more than a vulgar exercise of capitilism, based around ones guilt for not wanting anything to do with it. It plays on mens guilt and womens insecurity. Men are made to feel like selfish misers if they dont give, and women are made to feel unloved and unnatractive if they dont receive. All the while card makers, choclatiers and Florists are laughing their ing arses off!
It's good being single on Valentines day. You actually have 'one up' on couples IMO.
And, the good thing is, the crushing sense of lonliness, despair and worthlessness you feel for the rest of the year doesn't cost you a penny!

I actually ended up spending very little for St. Valentine's Day because my partner owed me £17 and so she paid for the majority of the meal. I got off lightly! She's good like that, she always pays her own way.
I refused to buy chocolates and flowers... besides, my girlfriend is not a flower person at all.

Channel 5? Is that still going?? Apparently Grundy TV - or whoever produces neighbours - wanted something like £300 million from the Beeb, to renew the contract for Neighbours. It's no wonder the Beeb ditched it. It was the first good decision they made in years.
Oh yes, the breakfast sofa. Lets all start the day gently, on the couch with a Cappacino a BBC muffin, and a quick chat with a smug doctor on the benefits of not living like a total wit. Where would we be without these people I ask you..?

James, she sounds great. Not like the tight arsed, blood sucking, high maintenance monsters I've landed myself with in the past. I have a special magnet that attracts 'problem' women.

It certainly was and I won't mention anything about what happened later... Where would we be without the BBC Breakfast sofa? Well, we'd probably be watching something equally as dire, like celebrity news reader brother, featuring Dermot Mernaghan sitting on the toilet, reading his news script. I watch Neighbours, Andy, I'm addicted to it! It's the only soap opera I do watch, though. Actually, Andy, there is worse than the BBC Breakfast News and it's on the BBC too... the 60 Second News, which is 30 seconds National and 30 seconds Local... it's dire!

Is that the bulletin around 7:00pm or so? I have seen that. Yes, it's appalling. Didn't that little girl who presents it, used to present childrens Newsround?

Yes, that's the one... when I first saw it I thought I was watching Channel 5... until I recognised the who was doing it. Used to be? She still is and she's probably in her mid 20s. How do I know that?
