I want to rant about something, but cannot think of anything... now that's not fair!  Why can I not Censored find something to Censored rant about!

Actually, I have found something very minor to rant about: The Grammies

I did not actually see much of it ( I saw about 10 minutes and that was enough for me), but I did see was total and utter Censored drivvel.  There was some blonde "singer" walking around with her bits as forward as she could get them, with a black skirt and boots on... I quote "singer" deliberately, because she was Censored flat and she was conveniently distracted by annoying men with little on, dancing around what seemed to be scrap cars... it was complete Censored Censored.  Then it turns out Amy Censored Winehouse won a Grammy (I gather she won five altogether... was that for services to Columbia's drug traffickers or something?) and she was not Censored there to accept it.  Then some R&B/Hip-Hop/Rapper guy came on with silly shiny glasses on... I am not sure what he was about.  I thought it was Kanye West, but apparently it was some guy I have never Censored heard of.  Then worst of all was Fergie and some guy who's name escapes me (something like Norman Wisdom or Stevie Wonder, but neither of them) came on and did this whiny song... unusual for Fergie to do something so sophisticated, mind you and she can sing, but still, it was Censored Censored.

I switched over then to watch Dave.

What got me though was all the silly dancing, the over-the-top stage effects and very poor singing.  Maybe I am getting old, but I quite like my musicians to stand still and play, rather than jump about or having strobe lighting that makes everyone go mental and forget how terrible the music is.

So yes, that is a silly worthless rant by me which is not even that serious.  Oh well.

Now now, Amy Winehouse is the best jazz singer ever. Dont you read the Guardian? Actually, I dont think they like her as much as they used to, now that she has sold a few records. They used to be constantly kissing her &rse when she was relatively unknown and 'cool' But that's journo's for you, I guess..

I could rant all day about awards ceremonies generally. I hate the Oscars, grammies, baftas, Brits you name it. All those to55ers slapping each others backs, and making crap speeches. They live in a fake world where what they do actually 'matters' A kind of twisted parallel universe, where people like Bono actually do change the world; a cocaine and Champagne addled Utopia, full of ego maniacs, blood sucking harpies and spoilt b&stards. A place where music is actually incidental.

Hmmm, what shall I rant about today?

Gameshows?

And in this should I include X-Factor, Masterchef, Lottery Shows etc?

Where all the contestants (goaded on by the brainless, I'll do anything for money and to hell with any kind of credibility I may once have had, so called celebrities - file under 'D') tearfully emote that whatever they are striving to win, be it a million quid, a chance to work in a professional kitchen, a holiday in Blackpool, a car, a house, a record contract guaranteed to expire the first time a release fails to hit number one (ie about three months) or an aged celebrity's signed colostomy bag, will "change their lives". Of course it won't change your life you sad pathetic "I'm on TV, can you see me mother?" reject from civilised society - enjoy your Warhol-ian 15 minutes, because in 16 minutes time, you could ride naked on the back of a Harley through the House Of Commons & nobody would (a) know who you are, (b) care, even if they did, or (c) pee on you if you were on fire - so go ahead, look with teary eyed anticipation at the minor celeb pausing for the regulation 57.6 seconds between the words "and the winner is" and "insert pleb's name here" - but don't forget to cry when you win...

...you sad

Rant #2

Now I find out the only decent digital station in the UK, Planet Rock is to close; Why? Well, let me give you the reason stated by their holding company:

"...not an economically viable growth platform for GCap Media"

Absolute ers!

I believe this is still under dispute Lee, owing to the belief that her bike's reinforced suspension and extra tyre tread gave her an unfair advantage....

I agree.  GCap were always a bunch of avericious pocketwatches.  It's a real tradgedy as I personally think that Planet Rock had grown to become possibly the best radio station in the UK (apart from Radio 4 of course).  Planet rock now has good listening figures and carries regular advertising so I find it hard to believe that it doesn't break even; although that isn't enough for The City.Angry

We can only hope that someone else takes the station on, but knowing GCap they'll just bin it.Cry
When people get lost in thought it's often because it's unfamiliar territory.

That is terribly sad news about Planet Rock.  I've not listened to that station for ages, but the last time I did, I noticed how much better it had gotten since the previous time I'd heard it.  Fish and Wakeman have shows on there, as does Alice Cooper and if you like Nicky Horne, then so does he.  The best digital radio station, definitely.  I hope it gets sorted out, it will be a sad loss.  I know people who have it on whilst at work too.

Now for a very quick rant...

Hypnotism.

Not just any old hypnotism though.  I mean the Paul McKenna hypnotism.

Maybe I'm missing something, but surely the things he purports to do is fake?  I was watching an old Top Gear on Dave and Paul McKenna hypnotised Richard Hammond.  The things Richard Hammond was doing was ridiculous and - maybe I am naive - just looked fake.  Surely McKenna, if he had a heart and soul, would not play with peoples livelihood like that?  This is way I think it's all acted out.

Actually, that was not really a rant... I just think that type of hypnotism is pointless and Paul McKenna should go crawl down a hole with Abi Tittmus, Jade Goodie and Ainsley Harriott. Angry

Not to mention Tony Iommi & occasionally Phil Manzanera & Gary Moore; this is a great radio station with (I'd hope) a lot of influence, given their supporters - we can but hope...

Does anyone remember when the BBC News was actually any good, instead of just good compared to the American counterpart? The journalists have all become dire - when EVERY SINGLE person you interview begins their sentence by saying "Well obviously..." then perhaps the questions you're asking aren't quite as incisive as they could be, hmm? The man who spoke with George Bush today was allowed to relate his interview process in a remarkable display of meta-broadcasting, and made every single one of his points twice in slightly different ways. If I was involved with the production of the NATIONAL news I'd be ashamed to have my name associated with it at present. ;P

It is becoming nearly as bad as the local news, and as soon as our main reporters start trying to establish themselves as personalities as opposed to fscking newsreaders, it will be exactly the same program twice in a row. I hate the phrase "dumbing down" and those who use it, but... well, how else can you put it? I don't even claim to be all that intelligent, aware, eloquent, or anything of the sort, but the quality of the BBC News is embarrassing. A group of six people chosen at random could do better.

the BBC News has certainly dumbed down...I've all but given up on the 6pm effort, preferring either Radio 4 or Channel 4 at 7pm, which is infinitely better....
