I never post anything anywhere without doing more than basic research, often in depth.

John Zorn's deserves mention. Probably not the largest, but he is adding to it often.

I think PETE NAMLOOK is the clear winner... His discography (or at least what my friend owns in mp3 format) strike up to 300 albums, not including all compilations.

Prog: Gotta be Tangerine Dream most likely.
Non-Prog: Maybe Merzbow or Wolf Eyes. There are a lot of composers who do music for films which rack up loads of recordings.

By what I know, Pete Namlook, Tangerine Dream, Klaus Schulze, John Zorn, Rick Wakeman have humongous discographies.

Perhaps it would be useful to define the criteria. Original studio albums only, or include live albums, compilations, singles, re-releases, repackagings (with new titles) etc.?

I swear, sometimes you admin types just have no respect for the value of anarchy. Would it help if it were floating?

Including Studio, Live and compilations Zappa has well over a 100 albums. In fact he could probably make 100 excluding compilations.

I'm sure sure Jody, Jim, Tony etc., would wish to be classified as being of the same type as myself!

I forgot about John Wetton. If you add up all the stuff he did, there's quite alot. More than alot of other artists.
As for the band with the most members, Uriah Heep has gone through more than 25 members in the band's history.

I never counted how many members Hawkwind had throughout their 40 years career, but I am pretty sure the number will about equal the number of years they exist
