It's supposed to be in the spring. I believe they have South American dates up at this point which take place in March. So, I'd assume North America would be next, then Europe if they are going there.

Thinking about it now, I'm not sure if the March dates are the progressive nation ones or if they are just Dream Theater. Prognation is not a side project, is a festival of only progmetal bands and was created by Mike Portnoy (is like a prog Gigantour).

so they're flaunting how "prog" they are? isn't that completely dodging the point of progressive rock?

Ummm no actually.... Prognation IS a new band formed by Mike Portnoy.
It will feature an all-star lineup of Portnoy on drums, Per Wiberg on keys, Tommy Rogers and Dusty Waring from BtBaM for vocals and guitar, and finally Joe Stote and Daniel Grimsland from THREE providing percussion & additional keys, and bass.
Mike Portnoy decided to name the band PROGNATION because, very simply, they plan on converting people into PROG fans by selling cds and touring the NATION, and other NATIONs as well.
In fact, the conversions have already begun all across South America, and the Australia/Japan leg tour is halfway complete.

The lineup have been playing a 2 1/2 hour set featuring a 37 minute drum solo with about 45 seconds of participation from THREE's percussionist, Joe Stote.
Apparently the inspiration for the massive solo was Mike's image in the mirror; In an interview, Mike explained that he saw himself drumming and thought "Wow, I'm good. I'm really really good and loud and fast. I should play a solo where I'm loud and fast. It should be very long, but also very loud and very fast, and also very technical and important, so it can be interesting for people listen to. I should also let the guy from 3 play in it, because he's pretty good too." Reports from the shows say that Mike has actually found a musical way to incorporate the mirror on his drumset, rather than it just be a way to watch himself while drumming.

Mike has mentioned that he formed the new band as a side project because his drumming was "so good that it was very diverse, and there is drum work in PROGNATION that just didn't fit (it was too big) in Dream Theater's sound."

Yeah my prog-metal loving friends and I are all going to see them in Southern California (or at least I heard the tour would be over here). Can't wait to see them both, especially Opeth touring as a prog band and not with death metal crap bands like Cradle of Filth. Should be great!

Cradle aren't death metal, but it's still crap anyway , I suspect after DT tours Oz, we wont be getting Prognation anytime in the next 12 months or Australia being Australia, probably never

That's a bit odd, I'm hearing two stories at once now. Maybe their both true By the way I saw the band THREE (spelled out and not to be confused with "3" which is a different band altogether to my understanding) open for Scorpions last fall... they are INCREDIBLE musicians, they put on literally the best sounding performance I think I have ever seen/heard. The sound effects were used perfectly and the vocalist did an amazing classical solo (it was a slap guitar sort of technique... there's a name for it but I forget). Their music wasn't particularly great, but the musicianship was jaw-dropping. At least I hope that's the same band we're all talking about here and not 3. Odd how those two bands ended up in the same subgenre of prog (crossover). It makes things so confusing!

They were death metal on their demo tapes, and they actually made great music until recently. Blasted sell-outs...
