I find them pretty average. Don't see what makes them so good.

I'll be completely honest... I've completely lost interest in them since In Absentia.. and the latest album..arrgg... average describes it best to me. Thankfully they don't need me as fan. There are plenty of others...

I used to be into them, but recently I went back and listened to their albums and felt nothing. Absolutely nothing. Makes me wonder why I had them in the first place...

Oh you all are deceiving yourselves of course...
Wait a few days, and you'll see how, among PA members, PT is the new DT....
Wait for the Album of the Year results to come out...
By the way: I saw them live and they're great, even though Wilson is not charismatic and he actually made mistakes, like forgetting the lyrics of Blackest Eyes....
I have all their albums....They're one of the great bands...
But of course with me they CAN'T be the new DT....

... and PT and DT will never be THE T.
Sorry, I had to say that.

You know, nobody listens to Hannah Montana, besides the occasional 10 year old girl. Lumping her together with them is an insult to Kanye West and, yes, even Fall out Boy, because even though as bad as they are, they are actually musicians.
PT aren't that intelligent, it's just more angsty teen lyrics over simple music that appears to be complex (before you scream, SW said about as much in an interview). I think they have way too many fans. But nobody likes me, so whatever.
They are extremely popular, almost everyone in the archives appears to love them and talk about them constantly, I hear them mentioned outside of a prog context, and Shallow is bloody preloaded onto my Xbox 360.
micky, if you need another member of your army to get Rush into prog-related, I'm happy to join. ;-)

Well, Prog-Related doesn't mean bad music, on the contrary... Some of my all-time favourite bands are in PR, as my reviews spell quite clearly. However, I'd like to remind you all that there are quite a few other bands who are in fully prog subs and have even less prog credentials than Rush. That said, I do agree about PT being a good band, but not the groundbreaking act that many consider them to be. Personally, I think The Mars Volta are the real blueprint for modern prog - love them or hate them, they are progressive in the true sense of the word.

If their gig at the House of Blues in Dallas last October is any indication they are doing just fine, fan-wise. The room was packed and the ages ranged from teens to people in their late fifties and everyone seemed to recognize every song they played so you do the math. And all that without a single ad or blurb in the local rags.

Insanely overrated in my opinion. They have done some nice things but they've always been pretty boring to me.

Charisma comes in many guises... to me SW has a unique charisma for sure. I for one can't take my eyes off him when he performs! Quite possibly the hottest music nerd ever, lol.
And to the person, who dreaded the day Muse fans discover PT, well, there is a rather active thread for the band on the (most popular?) Muse forum

I saw them two years ago at Town Hall in NYC...the place was fairly packed, but not sold-out, and everyone remained seated. Then I just saw them recently at much bigger Beacon Theater, and the place was MOBBED, with everyone in the orchestra section standing throughout the entire show.
I'd say they're the most successful of the new prog and prog-related bands out there.

Porcupine Tree's music from 1990-1998 is my favorite band. It's Pink Floyd but darker, more rhythmic, and more trance.

I think PT is a fantastic band. Never dull or boring. Certainly not over-rated.
And what is wrong with having way too many fans. Silly comment.
2008 will be another great year for the band and especially for Steven Wilson.

Of this band's music, this is the era that I dislike the least.

I can't trash Porcupine Tree, But i cannot say they are something special...They have nice lyrics, it is also important, although, I realy think Porcupine tree is more in the category of Alternative Rock , that of Prog...but of course thats my opinion....
