I have brought this up in other topics, but I haven't gotten much of a response.
In the redesigned album pages, reviews by those who have not received a fourth star are moved to a separate page from the main album page, which only features collaborator reviews. While I understand that it makes sense for a variety of reasons for the PR and collab reviews to have priority over non-collab reviews, I think that it is disrespectful and frankly quite insulting to reduce someone's hard work on a review to a two-sentence sidebar next to a review that required no more effort or thought. In addition, the pages look really, REALLY bad when there are only a few reviews by collaborators. Please, PLEASE, consider reverting to the old album pages, out of simple respect to the three-stars here. |

I agree completely. If anyone had taken the time to write a review (that complied with the guidelines), that review really should be up there with any other.

^ yes and no.... prog reviewers are promoted with good reason.. and the only 'perk' they have is having their reviews get top billing.
The way it was.... collabs top ... and non collabs below... but with FULL reviews was the best way. |

They also get editing, huge perk in my opinion. And I agree, the old way is best. |

*cough*non collabs can log into the collab zone just like collabs and edit their reviews*cough*
But yes, I agree with Micky, the old system of collab reviews on top and the rest underneath is much better than collab reviews dominating with 2 sentences of a few non-collab reviews off to the side. |

There are already threads relating to this. The problem with another new on starting is that the discussion becomes fragmented.
M@x is aware that there are a number of issues with the changes which were made to the site. These however were part of a major upgrade to the site, which included behind the scenes improvements to improve security etc. It is not simply therefore a question of going back to the old way, further development work is now required. M@x is working on this, but as will all of us, sometimes the time available to him is less than others.
I don't think he will go back to the old way completely with the way the reviews are displayed, but there will be improvements coming. Unfortunately, at this stage we cannot say when.

On the front page, click "Collab zone" and then log in with your forum credentials where it says "log in" near the top of the page. There, you're free to edit your reviews as you please. |

I have already mentioned in another thread how much I disliked the new way of displaying reviews. It is just not fair I think. IMHHO it is the best way to discouraged people posting their reviews and this made the richness of the site. When I see all these reactions against the new layout, I really wonder why this change was implemented. How was this handled? Discussions ? Empiric decisions of a single person? Hope to get this answered.

Just a wild guess, but a page with 700 reviews takes longer to load and uses up more resources than a page with 12 reviews. I think the pages with hundreds of reviews load quicker now using this new display simply because they may only display 1/2 to maybe 1/4 as many reviews as before.
I could be wrong, but resource usage always plays some role in the way large sites are designed. |

Yes, but there are not that many albums with enough reviews to significantly lag anyone's loading time. Besides, the reviews are all text, so they load fairly quickly even when they're quite long. Even so, a slightly shorter load time for the Thick as a Brick page hardly justifies hiding people's hard work. It significantly discourages reviewing for those who are not collaborators; I know that when I was a 3-star, I stopped writing reviews the moment I saw the new album page (admittedly, I never was a very strong reviewer).

I'm no expert, but I can't imagine that M@X wouldn't have the code for the old album page on a hard drive somewhere. I don't think it would be an easy fix, but I can't imagine it being a terribly difficult one if he's got the code for the page.

some bullet points:
- It was M@x's decision, it is his site
- There has been discussion over the years about the previous presentation. Many felt it was impractical for albums with a lot of reviews. Some older PCs and dial up connections struggled to display the info.
- There have been a number of discussions in the collabs area about how it could be improved.
- The band pages show the latest reviews regardless of who wrote them
- M@x is aware of the shortcoming of the present layout, and will make further changes. Unfortunately, he has a real life too!
- There has in fact not been much negative feedback. A few have said a lot about it, but given the number of people who submit reviews, it is a small proportion. The number of reviews coming is has not declined.
- The changes were part of a bigger upgrade which improved the performance of the site and made it more secure. It's not a simple question of going back to what we had
- In any case, was what we had really the best way anyway?
- There are lot of things which people are saying need to be done first. Clearly, everything cannot be done first. The number one priority will always be the security and continuity of the site. Unfortunately, all the work done by M@x on that side of things is transparent to the members.

I strongly agreed with the disadvantage of 'normal reviews" being shortened down to a few lines since the layout has changed. Perhaps there is no problem in spliting Collaborators from Members vertically (instead of horizontally), but, IMHO, you cannot under any circumstances put the most of a member's review under a "read more" link/function.

Right after nearly half of people vote that collaborator reviews shouldn't count any more than a regular review, this shows up.
