Topic: Ultimate Prog Tournament #2: Genesis v. Oldfield Posted: January 13 2008 at 01:03 |
My friend's poll is titled 'Ultimate Prog Tourney". Refer to it to understand why I'm doing this.

Heh, I thought it was Mahavishnu Orchestra at first. If it was, they would get my vote easily, but in this case; Genesis.

Genesis is amongst the greatest of prog-bands, so they kick Oldfield's ass.

Mike Oldfield. Believe me, it was a hard choice, but I understood that Genesis recorded only 3 works that really excite me (and the Collins era is aaaaawful..). Oldfield is a sort of genius for me. Even if he doesn't write cds like in the 70, i must admit that Tubular Bells is still one of my fav cds ever. A TOTAL masterpiece. And then Hergest Ridge, Ommadawn, QE2, Five Miles Out, Amarok, Platinum, Incantations....

Genesis, even if Oldfield is one of most skilled and inspired musician I have ever heard. The Genesis masterpieces simply come from an another world.

Oldfield. Tubublar Bells > anything made by Genesis, only thing that comes close is the Lamb. But Genesis winns anyway so old mike need a vote.

I'm afraid I don't like Genesis, so Oldfield gets the vote.

Lying on my death bed, I'd choose Mike Oldfield, for the beauty, the depth and ease hand in hand and the musical coherence.
BTW one underestimated piece from MO: The Killing Fields....
