I noticed this two, it pisses me off, because when i'm arguing with someone I like to be able to see that they have good musical taste. Plus its just fun to see what people like.
Oh, and I'm on the recent post box bandwagon as well.

Bob, here is a general summary-- some or most of these things may have been solved, are in the process of being solved, or presumably remain as they are... and I'm no techie, so forgive the simplicity of the list regarding tech issues
- 10 Latest Posts missing - member's reviews link in Member Profile missing - problem with diacritics - bug in Active Posts (from Rico's post) - errors with the Search Feature bringing members to a Server Error in Forum Application page (from ManWithHat's post) - Email Notification Subject line too long for some (from Darqdean's post) - more contrast in color settings; i.e. locks, etc. (from Angelo's post) - font should be changed back to Aerial (from MikeEnRegalia's post) - 'Hover' feature missing from last posts - problem with hyperlink toolbar button when replying to posts (from ClemOfNazareth's post) - new Thread page numbers not turning purple as before (from Geck0's post) - adds appearing right under first page posts rather than at bottom ...and KingCrimson776 mentions a problem with the Edit Post bar, reporting that the options bar goes behind the quote box ' Edited by Atavachron - January 05 2008 at 05:38 |

Re: problem with diacritics and other symbols
As MikeEnR rightly says, the char-set seems to have been changed to ISO-Latin, rather than UTF-8, which is causing the bug I referred to previously. This is a simple one to fix. |

Another bug: The quick search isn't working ... there's always a timeout error when I try to search. I guess M@x should limit the search to topics / exclude search in posts, as he did in the previous forum version. Also, if at all possible, the search display should be set to "topics" by default.

why am I against bring back the top 10 posts.... stupid sh*t like this..... come on people... do we work here just so a visitor to this site come come here... and find this stuff as recent topics...
http://www.progarchives.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=26653 http://www.progarchives.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=45071 http://www.progarchives.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=45030 hahahha.. could post more I'm sure.. but lunch is ready tell me I have a stick up my ass... maybe so... I won't be the first here to have one I guess hahahha if M@X is to bring it back... how about remembering this a dammed prog site... and we want prog fans here.. make the recent 10 that the kids seems to want back.. for prog 'section' posts only. Call it a compromise... a compromise of the leverage-less hahahhah. M@X will do what he thinks best.... but this at least makes sense... we have an active topics means to find the latest posts already.. but if you have to bring back to 10 latest to satisfy those who can't get past it's elimination... just make it for prog topics. Seems reasonable enough to me. Edited by micky - January 06 2008 at 12:31 |

Honestly, if you want to avoid trash posts, get rid of the "general discussion" lounge instead of the most recent 10 posts (which I find quite useful for consulting this page).

Sorry if this has already been mentioned, but there seems to be a problem with the appearance of most recent threads. After the original post, the left margin (containing the avatar and other info) of subsequent posts gets smaller or larger. Also, an empty box appears underneath the original post. Here are some examples:
Too small: http://www.progarchives.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=45085 Too large: http://www.progarchives.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=45075 I use Firefox, and just to make sure, I checked Internet Explorer and the same thing happened. |

I just checked IE again, and the box below the original post has an ad in it, I didn't see it originally in Firefox because I must have been blocking it.

Yep.
What is happening is that the Ad between the first post and the following posts is splitting the table into two tables. IE (and browsers using the IE engine) automatically sets the table column widths based upon the content of all the data in each column, which means that the first table has different column widths than the second one - the soulution (for M@X) would be to fix the width of the first column(ie the avatar cell).

The recent ten posts is incredibly useful and certainly got me to research and comment on topics that I would otherwise not have known existed. I simply do not want to have to trawl the whole site to see what is going on and which topics are current. This is a forum for discussion and not knowing what's currently being discussed doesn't exactly encourage me. I found the ten most recent list very useful and sorely miss it.
As for the later comments by Paolo about getting rid of the General Discussions room. That would certainly get me off the site. I have a big interest in Prog Rock amongst other things and I do read and comment on the Prog specific threads but the main reason that I come here is to chat with like minded people about life in general and to have a bit of fun. I suspect that most of the more interesting people on this forum do the same. Edited by Heavyfreight - January 07 2008 at 10:57 |

"Recent 10" ... seems like a totally useless feature to me. Usually there will be much more than 10 new posts when I return to the forum even after a few hours. Active Topics is the only thing I need!

Listen, I wrote that comment "per absurdo", just to point out to Micky that removing the 10-most-recent-post box wouldn't prevent people to start silly discussions. I find that all this noise about "the box" is really pointless: if many devoted members want it back, just let it return! If you find it useless, just don't read it. I agree with Heavyfreight, I also find the Last 10 very useful. I do see a reason for Recent Posts as well, but why can we not have both? Often the Recent Posts can go up to 9 pages (it did the other day) and it took me ages to go through it all.
Last 10 Posts is more useful to me and when I hover the mouse over the link, it told me the first words of the post, which was useful for determining if I found it relevant and/or useful to view in full. Sometimes The Velvet Room, The Grey Room and some other threads, did dominate the last 10 posts, but that was often at quiet times on the forum or when the American East Coast Teenagers are awake. |
