Until I became prog lover I was sure that Mark II was the best but now I have no doubt that in Mark I they made the most ambitious music. And Lord was the real hero of this band in these days...great times..

i voted for Mark IV for one and only reason: it would be a real shame if the Bolin era didn't get at least one vote... he was a great guitarist.. he could play everything, from jazz to rock to fusion to you name it.. |

Itīs a pity Purple never released an album with Satriani, that could have been really interesting.
I voted Mark ll, but also like Mark l and lll

I've only heard a few poor recorded quality tracks from a boot of Joe Satriani with Purple, and the mix meant that when Lord played Satriani disappeared. However, those times you can hear Satriani solo, something different and special comes through. (However, the quality is so poor, I haven't been tempted to go back too often to relisten). A real pity there isn't a legit recording of DP with JS.

Mark II but III and IV were also very good. Shame there's only one studio album featuring Tommy Bolin.

My favourite is MK III and IV but I also love MK II being the most commercial.

^Do you mean "most commercially successful"? Because I don't see anything commercial in such tracks as "Bloodsucker", "Child in Time" and "Fools". MK II is my favourite period, and "In Rock" and "Fireball" my favourite Deep Purple albums.

It simply has to be Mark II. Mark III was pretty good, and even the later versions are ok too. However, Mark II was a landmark band in the history of rock music, so I vote for them.
