But seriously, and sorry for getting off topic, but this is super inconvenient. When you view someone's profile, you can't get to their reviews. You have to find their name somewhere on the review section and click it there. Anyway, Ian Anderson getting knighted, seriously great stuff. ![]() |

MBE? That's nothing-- sounds like some sort of business school degree. I propose that the Prog Archivers lobby for Ian to get the OBE or CBE or GBE or even sainthood-- let's not sell the good man short. |

Actually, I would've expected Ian to do the same. Guess I misjudged him.... |

From Wikipedia:
The Most Excellent Order of the British Empire is a British order of chivalry established on 4 June 1917 by King George V. The Order includes five classes in civil and military divisions; in decreasing order of seniority, these are:
Only the two highest ranks entail admission into knighthood, an honour allowing the recipient to use the title 'Sir' (male) or 'Dame' (female) before their name. Honorary knighthoods, given to individuals who are not nationals of a realm where Queen Elizabeth II is Head of State, permit usage of the honour as a post-nominal but not as a title before their name. These recipients are classified as honorary members of the Order they receive, and do not contribute to the numbers restricted to that Order as full members do. There is also a related British Empire Medal, whose recipients are not members of the Order, but who are nonetheless affiliated with the Order. This medal is no longer conferred in the United Kingdom or its dependencies, but is still used by the Cook Islands and by some other Commonwealth nations. The Order's motto is For God and the Empire. It is the most junior of the British orders of chivalry and has more members than any other. --------------------------------------------------------------------
The first pop/rock musicians to get gongs were the Beatles (MBE) in 1965 - Lennon subsequently returned his to protest against the Vietnam war. David Gilmour was awarded the CBE in 2005, making him the first prog nusician to be honoured (I think).
A number of people have declined honours, including David Bowie and Paul Weller. Edited by Syzygy - December 29 2007 at 11:12 |
