Yep, that's my current favourite band

There WILL be votes for "This Charming Man" and "There's a Light...", so I'll abstain from voting for them. "Barbarism..." and "...Fountain" are close as well, but I voted for "Nowhere Fast" - it's groovy!!!

Oh my favorite is "Heaven Knows I'm Miserable Now" with the cheery "Girlfriend in a Coma" a close second.

There are so many great ones -- I was listening to the Smiths just this morning.Smile

In any case, as usual I'll be "difficult," and not select any one track as "best."
 (There are so many equally essential ones!) Ermm
 
 
 
BTW, if you don't have any solo Morrissey, you need these discs next:
 
A generous compilation of the best early solo stuff -- VERY essential!
 
Really good -- my fave overall. Produced by (late great) Mott the Hoople/Bowie guitarist Mick Ronson. This one rocks!
 
 
Very strong as well. Rather melancholy, but essential.
 
 
 
I don't have Southpaw Grammar (but want it -- it's supposedly good), and I found the latest, Ringleader of the Tormentors, to be rather weak.

Hmmmm... sorry, I don't have that one, either.
 
One thing to watch for with buying Smiths "albums" is excessive marketing --  meaning that many supposedly different albums with many of the same tracks were put out by the greedy music execs. Morrissey even addressed this issue on Strangeways Here We Come -- the last Smiths album:

Re-issue ! Re-package ! Re-package !
Re-evaluate the songs
Double-pack with a photograph

Panic, he's saying some truthful things about  radio.

I also like How Soon is now for the guitar, but just don't ever listen to those horrible covers done by several pop "artists."

I voted Panic, Could have been most any Smiths song though.
 
I used to play guitar in a band back in the late 80's, And all we played were Smiths songs, How I miss those days but listening to the Smiths takes me back.

From the list I voted for 'There is a light that never goes out' Love the lyrics and the strings in that song.

One of my all time favourite Smiths songs is 'Stop me if you think you've heard this one before'

Mark Ronson done an awful cover of this recently, which sripped away all the feeling and dark humour from the song, rendering it pointless. But thats just what pop is all about, I guess; banality.

There is a light that never goes out is such a masterpiece. So touching, i remember the first time i heard it on my friend's mp3 player, and i was just like "wow..can i hear it again, please?" and the same day i listened to the whole album and it has been one of my favourites since then.

Impossible to choose! I will give a quick mention to Frankly Mr Shankly though, a bit of an overlooked gem and one of several songs to refer (obliquely) to Billy Liar, the most famous being William It Was Really Nothing.
 
Re You Are The Quarry - if you like Vauxhall and I and Your Arsenal you'll probably love it. No real surprises, but one of his stronger solo albums. Ringleader of the Tormentors is also worth checking out.

Love The Smiths and love all thos songs but, There Is a Light That Never Goes Out is a bit special.

Got all thiere albums and some other Live and compliations but so far no solo Morrissey, thx for the recomendations Peter, will look out for thos albums. Thumbs%20Up
