Just out of curiosity - what's with this albums that's been voted most popular last 7 days and which also tops the 2007 list? Never heard of them before, and I just checked the visible reviewers, of whom half only have reviewed this album, and another has reviewed this and a couple of very classic albums, none with reviews. The Nimrodel reviews look valid enough, though.

What have we here? Coincidences? A deserved effort? Or a clever rating attack with numerous fake identities?

All those issues are under checking/observation. Thanks, anyway!

I noticed this too. I made a small analysis and posted it in the Reviews Reporting thread a while ago:

Look at Almuadem's Nimrodel's album page. Apart from a three star review of Kotro (whom I don't suspect of anything) we've got there:

- member robert_bing (Joined date: 12/23/2007 | Posts: 0| Last visit: 12/23/2007 5:10:31 PM EST) - 5%20stars, review (his only one)

- member Mozarttaler (Joined date: 12/25/2007 | Posts: 0| Last visit: 12/26/2007 5:42:18 PM EST) - 5%20stars, review (apart from this one he also posted ratings without reviews for three major albums  - looks like a smoke-screen to me - all four within ten minutes)

This way the album in question has got now a 4.71 rating and became The Most Popular Album in the last 7 days (featured on the front page). Doesn't it look suspicious? Ermm

Well, the album isn't voted to be the most popular, its the most reviewed album at the moment that makes it the most popular and Almuadem has been reviewed 20+ times this week!

This reminds me of a band that got added last year, EGYPTIAN KINGS  . The band is related to Almuadem and their both from Portugal. People started giving 5 star ratings to it without even thinking twice and most of those people that reviewed it were from Portugal and only signed to PA just to review it. Not all of those 5 star ratings where from fanboys and the main problem is trying to identify which one is a fanboy and which one isn't.

The same thing that happened to Egyptian Kings is happening to Almuadem. It's sad to see these sort of thing happen, but there isn't really much we can do about it.

If you want to listen to their album Nimrodel you can download it for free at http://www.myspace.com/almuadem

Only then you can be sure if it's really as good as people claim it to be.Wink

Oh, I didn't notice it had over 20 ratings. But why has the overall rating changed? It was 4,71 a while ago and now it's 4,68... Confused

A new five-star review by toddymut appeared just a while ago. And he posted ratings without reviews for three major albums just like aforementioned Mozarttaler...

What bugs me the most is that my review started it all. If I had kept shut that album would have remained inconspicuous and none of this would have happened. Nearly all of the reviews posted in the two days following mine were trashing my review. And I don't even think it was a mean review - it was quite positive in my book. I can't imagine what would have happened if I had given them a bad review... LOL

It's good someone is dealing with it, this kind of abuse is intolerable, even though I believe the people who voted 5 stars actually do mean them. If I recall, this wasn't as bad as the case with Egyptian Kings, when those who rated Almagest with 5 stars also distribuited 1-stars to all the albums in the then 2006 Top 10. There have been a lot of more objective reviews for Almagest since then, and that album now has a more credible rate. I believe the same should happen to this Nimrodel, which I reafirm is actually more deserving of a good rating than the previous Egyptian Kings work.

But still I can't stop feeling I own an apology for triggering this abuse, even if without intention.
Bigger on the inside.

Okay, what's the deal with Satellite - Into The Night?

And how can we see the ratings without reviews list?
What?

I may check those ratings-without-reviews, Dean... anyway, I believe that if some kind of abuse happened with this album, it was significantly softer than what happened with Almuadem. Smile

Thanks Guigo, with such a glowing (possitively illuminous!) review from Bob I have no doubts that this is a great album, but with so many ratings-without-reviews its sudden position on top of the 2007 chart feels a little suspicious.
What?
