A small choice for a year with many great Prog albums but you just happen to have my favourite album there, Snakes and Arrows, a real return to form for Rush.

In the list PT's FoaBP and BTBAM'S Colors.
But also and perhaps rather :
Oceansize's Frames,
Anekdoten's A Time of Day,
Quidam's Alone Together,
Deadsoul Tribe's A Lullaby for the Devil,
Senogul's Senogul

Music has always been a matter of energy to me. On some nights I believe that a car with the needle on empty can run 50 more miles if you have the right music very loud on the radio. Hunter S Thompson

I have to say, that I voted for BTBAM's Colors, because it is just amazing songwriting. But I am sad to see that Mind's Eye's "Gentleman's Hurricane" was not on the list...That release deserves some recognition IMHO.

I'm going to keep beating the drum for VIOLETA DE OUTONO for album of the year. From this list PT. I was really disappointed with REDEMPTION's "Origin Of Ruin",i mean it's good,it's just not amazing like their "Fulness Of Time" album was.

The Flower Kings - The Sum of No Evil
Ritual- The Hemulic Voluntary Band
Both the above are better than any up there in the voting options. Somewhere Else was a huge disappointment to me, and I cannot even believe I wasted my money on Systematic Chaos, which was Dream Theater repeating everything they had already done. Of those, options, Snakes and Arrows & Fear of a Blank Planet were two decent albums.

Well, I think foabp/nr is a great album, porcupie tree always surprises me, and this is one of their masterpieces, well, if you donīt like a lot the album itīs ok, itīs your opinion.
by the way, where the hell that bands came form ? I never heard about 'em before Don't misunderstand me, I'm not a big proger, I'm almost new-proggie :) |
I didn't say it's not a good album (I like it, but that's about it) but there are so many albums I find to be so much better than it released this year (and I keep finding more albums each week).
I'm having hard times deciding top favourites (I usually don't do it, but as we have a poll going on in the collab zone so I need to pick) but PT is not even in my top 20, there's so many other great albums which so far have only been named once in this thread if any at all.
I understand that most people will go for the high profile bands, and I listen to those too, but there are many gems which are very much worth the bother (you can look for recommendations in specific threads and in thread I open as well if you're interested. You can also PM me if you wish ).

In that thread, you ask for basics and there's more than enough people who can give you that here. It seems unrelated to recommend best of 2007 there (though Senogul's album is one hell of an album, regardless of year). Enjoy your discoveries

I'm glad I'm not the only one that thought of Systematic Chaos as a mediocre album. If we talk about prog metal, I choose Symphny X's Paradise Lost, but talking about all genres I choose Porcupine Tree's Fear Of a Blank Planet.
