Very interesting records from what I've read. I will certainly search for Šta bi dao da si na mom mjestu and Bitanga i Princeza .

How about their last works? More folk (balkanian) oriented?

Thanks Andrea! Embarrassed
I would definitely recommend these two above Smile.
If you like them, then try to hear also "Kad bi bio Bijelo dugme" and "Eto! Bas hocu"...

If you mean their latest works from the 1980s, IMO they are horrible, avoid at all costs! Cheap balkan folksy/popy garbage mostly due to poor vocals (singers were Tifa and Islamovic, not Bebek) and banal lyrics touching the political kitsch Dead!

Cheers!
(I am glad you are discovering some great old Yugoslav stuff...) Wink

I hope more people be involved in this excellent prog scene, Seyo. I was mesmerized when listened to Leb i Sol and, in particular, to Indexi's Modra Rijeka.
All the prog listeners should be have that one!

I've ordered my copy of Bijelo Dugme's Bitanga i Princeza right now, early in the morning just before going off to Padua for the exams...
See you soon.

^^ hmm judging by these several mp3 samples put here, I am not too impressed.
But, on the other hand, I am not a big prog metal lover I guess...
Anyway I will leave Alogia to prog metal experts to evaluate them.
Cheers!

M@x fortunately had a back up copy of the database so the homepage and the reviews are safe now.
BTW I have just re-loaded (I've done yesterday but the hack attack canceled it) a new cover for Indexi's Modra Rijeka.

That's because now covers' illustrations are larger and the effect was low due to the low definition.

In this blog you can find maaany covers in excellent format. I suppose also free downloadable mp3 but I don't think it's legal...

The cover is this:

That is excellent site with many rare old Yugo vinyl albums available for download. I dont see any legal problem because most of them are not possible to buy anywhere...

Arrived!

I have to listen to it deeply... but from the first impression I can say is enough original, good and pleasant. An interesting balkanian flavour blended with heavy rock but also with good touches of strings...

Thanks for the recommendation, Seyo.

On about my next purchases: I will search for the recent remastered reissues of Bijelo Dugme's classic repertoire.

What is "sheperd rock"? Does the expression define Bitanga i Princeza or only the previous works?

PA's mp3 samples of Alogia aren't good. Everyone should try: "Secret Speres" and "Metamorfoza". Wink When you listen to them... We'll talk.

Good! Clap Shepherds rock is a style employed by Dugme on previous albums, not on Bitanga. Basically, it is a hard rock filled with Balkan rural folk themes, both musically and lyrically. Check the albums "breasts", "ass" and "lips"... LOL

AERODROM — Kad misli mi vrludaju
Review by Seyo (Sead S. Fetahagic)
Special Collaborator

4%20stars AERODROM’s debut (En. “When My Mind Flies By”), apart from recalling the similar RARE BIRD’s title, has seemingly one serious flaw – disposition in time! Had it been released around 1974-75 it would probably have been a groundbreaking effort in prog rock scene in former Yugoslavia. In this way, showing up during the outburst of New Wave music scene looks like an unbelievable musical time machine.

That said, it is still a good album. Musical performance is strong even if lacking the technical virtuosity of musicians, a tenet so akin to prog genre as a whole. The strongest points have to be the excellent Jon Anderson-like tenor of Zlatan Živković (whose first job was actually a drummer!), and overall songwriting and production. Jura Pađen as a leading composer and competent guitarist did not want to engage too much in the soloing territory and perhaps he was right, but what he does in certain moments, like in Hackett-styled sustained solo in “Pusti neka traje” (En. “Let It Be”) or “Šareni kolači” (En. “Coloured Cakes”), is very good.

Amazingly, this album contained a huge hit single, the title track, which did not help the album sales, paradoxically. The single was a smash hit – the album much less so. Obvious explanation is that it differs from the rest of the songs on the album – the title track is a concise, strong melody and chorus- laden rock song with radio play potentials, which cannot be said for other compositions.

On one side one cannot help but brag about a “half-cooked” product, not sufficiently devised compositions, not very original ideas and restrained development of epic song structures, even if we neglect a poor PR and audience targeting. “Vrati se Ivane” (En. “Come Back, Ivan”) with its honky- tonks leaning is outright poor and totally out of place. On the other, “Kad misli mi vrludaju” is one of very few Yugoslavian albums that follow a “genre-orthodoxy” and can easily, without hesitation, be qualified under the tag of “symphonic prog rock”, as defined by prog giants YES and GENESIS. Other albums that came close to this definition were KORNI GRUPA’s “Not an Ordinary Life” and INDEXI’s “Modra rijeka” but they were released earlier. In the best moments - “Nestala dobrota” (En. “The Kindness Lost”), “Pusti neka traje” and “Kraj tebe u tami” (En. “Beside You In The Darkness”) - AERODROM shows decent prog capabilities that would unfortunately be largely dismissed in their later career.

Jura Pađen continued to pursue a commercial, new wave/pop rock and mainstream path after this album, so this all makes “Kad misli mi vrludaju” even more interesting piece of work to check out.

As a personal note, I should mention that my first rock concert attendance was actually AERODROM around 1980, after this album has been released, so I have pleasant memories for this period.

PERSONAL RATING: 3,5/5

P.A. RATING: 4/5
