Ok, basically the same premise as The Best of Yes.  You are approached by a record company who wants to release a 2 CD (160 minutes) Best of Genesis album.    What do you program??

The Peter Gabriel Rule:  No more than 80 minutes can be devoted to albums before A Trick of the Tale.   The record company wants a product that spans all of Genesis's history.  No more than two Gabriel era songs off live albums that post date it, and only one if you choose Supper's Ready off Seconds Out.

So here we go.

Disc 1

Stagnation -- Trespass
The Musical Box -- Nursery Cryme
Can-Utility and the Coastliners -- Foxtrot
Horions -- Foxtrot
Supper's Ready -- Foxtrot
Firth of Fifth -- Selling England By The Pound
The Cinema Show -- Selling England By The Pound
The Carpet Crawlers -- The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway
Anyway -- The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway

(Running Time  78:42)

Disc 2

Squonk -- A Trick of the Tail
Ripples -- A Trick of the Tail
One for the Vine -- Wind and Wuthering
Blood on the Rooftops -- Wind and Wuthering
Behind the Lines -- Duke
Turn it On Again -- Duke
Keep it Dark -- Abacab
Dodo/Lurker -- Abacab
Home by the Sea -- Genesis
Second Home by the Sea -- Genesis
Domino -- Invisible Touch
Congo -- Calling All Stations

(Running time:  78:12)

Although this is over 80 mins each I think everything from 1970-1977, just omitting More Fool Me and Your Own Special Way would constitute their best of.

I don't really know enough Genesis post Wind And Wuthering to make up a second disc, but I'll put together a first, trying not to draw too heavily on any one album.

1. Dancing With The Moonlit Knight
2. Fly On A Windshield
3. Broadway Melody of 1974
4. Looking for Someone
5. The Knife
6. For Absent Friends
7. The Musical Box
8. More Fool Me
9. Get 'em out by Friday
10. Can Utility And The Coastliners
11. After the Ordeal
12. Anyway
13. The Chamber of 32 Doors

Total Run Time 77.34 minutes, I think.

Disc 2 would certainly have Dance On A Volcano, One For The Vine and Squonk.

I personally don't like the record co. decision and the PG rule, Best means Best and that's with Gabriel but I'll play by the rules anyway.
          Disc One
           1.Visions of Angels
           2. The Fountain of Salmacis
           3. Can-Utility and the Coastliners
           4. Dancing with the Moonlit Knight
           5. Firth of Fifth
           6. The Cinema Show
           7. In the Cage
           8. The Lamia
           9. The Light Dies Down on Broadway
           10. Riding the Scree
           disc 2.
           1. Dance on a Volcano
           2. Entangled
           3. Mad Man Moon
           4. Ripples
           5. Los Endos
           6. One for the Vine
           7. Blood on the Rooftops
           8. Supper's Ready ( from Seconds Out)

Maybe now we need a Steve Hackett rule!
