Early days for them I guess Erik but they sound like a band with potential.

Jimmy, a few weeks ago I received an e-mail from Obscura that they have put my review on their site, I hope this promising new Italian progrock band will be added to Prog Archives, a few months ago I read that one of the Symphonic Prog Team members is busy with it. Good musical observation about Obscura, I agree about your critical remarks and I will mail the band about it.

coincidence: I just listened to Obscura again yesterday. I'm impressed with much of the arrangements and there's some moments when they nearly "get it", I just wish the vocals were better, and they need a better rhythmn section. I think if they record again and iron these things out it will be very interesting.

This morning I enjoyed listening to:
OBSCURA – Le Citta Invisibili (***1/5) ![]() This is a new Italian sextet, their music sounds as a pleasant and alternating blend of several styles in which the contrast between the sparkling Grand piano and heavy guitar riffs like Black Sabbath are very remarkable! It give an extra dimension like in the varied compositions Limbo Cosmico Part I (from mellow flute to heavy guitar and a wonderful, very sensitive guitar solo, supported by huge Mellotron waves, Progheaven!), La Citta Del Sole (sparkling piano and heavy guitar riffs, an accellaration with organ and guitar and finally Fender Rhodes and again heavy riffs), Limbo Cosmico Part II (beautiful interplay between piano and flute, a moving guitar solo with lush organ and a great final part with good vocals, flute and choir-Mellotron)) and the excellent final composition Guernica (alternating with Fender Rhodes piano/flute and neo-prog with fluent synthesizer flights, organ and propulsive drums and a compelling part with wah-wah guitar, first supported by organ and then by majestic choir-Mellotron, goose bumps!). This CD delivers two short pieces: Bersebea featuring Grand piano arpeggio’s and mellow flute and Ipazia with a flute/acoustic guitar duet, wonderful.
Although they still have to mature a bit in composing, to me this debut album by new Italian band Obscura sounds as a very pleasant blend of symphonic (tasteful vintage keyboards), classical and hardrock |

Antennas: you are right about the Riverside singer/bass player, a bit overkill in asking for handclapping and sheering but I have the idea that this man, like Peter Gabriel, Fish and Jim Morrison, feels happy on stage, that is the place where he can communicate, show his emotions and receive appreciation, almost childish
![]() Jimmy Row: excellent idea to publish our Lesser Known And Unknown Top 10 Albums 2007, I hope to post my list tomorrow and hopefully other posters will also publish that Top 5
![]() And now I am going to make a Lazuli CD review, I am glad they have been added to this site
![]() About R-U Kaiser, check out this new Chilean band

Riverside was very good - but still, I have some negative remarks to share nevertheless... http://solarfallsrealm.livejournal.com/242358.html
I just rather see bands remain true to themselves, in stead of obviously having followed some kind of 'Audience Participation'- course. As much as I love Mariusz's bass playing and voice, I couldn't help but feel quite irritated that he so much asked for 'cheering & clapping' throughout all of his lovely, intimate songs.
BURSTING THE BUBBLE, that is, for me.
Sorry to be the proverbial 'Fly in the Ointment' right here - but I'd rather be honest than anything else...

Nice job adding R-U Kaiser Erik...not exactly to my taste but I'm happy to see the growing reputation they're spreading around the prog community
![]() 2007 is nearing it's close so it would be interesting if some of us could do a "lesser known top 10" list to shine light on some of the best of the many bands we've talked about in this thread...

![]() Thanks a lot for posting this. I'm sure the http://www.5bridges.nl - bandmembers appreciate it a lot, too!
BTW, my latest review, of December 13, Dial & Riverside - is up over here:
Sorry about that IDIOTIC '14-years and over'-message...
![]() ![]() ![]() just click and all of it should be okay. I'm still working on how to GET RID OF IT, heh.
At least I hope it's possible...

R-U KAISER* — Ocelos Review by erik neuteboom (erik neuteboom) Special Collaborator Symphonic Prog Expert — First review of this album —
1. Dioscuros (The Genesis) : a very alternating piece with spectacular work on keyboards (from a soaring choir-Mellotron sound to a flashy synthesizer solo and powrful organ runs), ‘angelic’ Spanish female vocals and fiery guitar runs, it sounds very dynamic and exciting!
2. Letargia (The Flight) : after the sound of the sea and birds, the atmosphere is first mellow with thin vocals and tender piano and then more hypnotizing with a slow rhtyhm delivering twanging guitar and a choir-Mellotron sound, a majestic piece of music that contrasts perfectly with the previous song.
3. Semjases (The Encounter) : this is also a very alternating track, from dreamy with wonderful female vocals to mid-tempo featuring propulsive guitar/drums and flashy synthesizer flights and a compelling final part with the focus on sensitive and fiery guitar work, very moving!
4. Ocelos (The Future) : this is their ‘magnum opus’ (at about 11 minutes) with lots of flowing shifting moods, sensational work on keyboards and guitar and a splendid bombastic final part with awesome interplay between sparkling piano, propulsive and fiery guitarplay, beautiful, often thin female vocals, an adventurous rhtyhm-section and spectacular synthesizer runs, symphonic prog at its best!
- To me this sounds as a very strong debut CD. You can hear that this band plays together for many years. If you are up to the often thin and high-pitched, ‘angelic’ Spanish female vocals, this will be an excellent symphonic prog experience! Edited by erik neuteboom - December 15 2007 at 19:46 |

I have just added R-U Kaiser to Prog Archives (thanks to Cesar and Marco Guerrero) and posted my review, I am looking forward to more reviews!
Angelo, what a pity you missed Riverside, they did very well, the crowd freaked out, the band loved the Dutch audience and they came back two times for encores

I'd like to introduce you to the unique Krautrock band Coupla Prog from Germany
Their complete material was recorded at a radio station and finally released 30 years later! Very interesting - the songs are live played, pure, without any reworking and overdubbing. Very hammond drenched songs. ![]() The band worked out the rock opera Edmundo Lopez provided with a gripping story. For more informations read the biography or my review |

Well Norbert, I remember that I listened to Riverside ffor the first time a few years ago, I was blown away from the very first second, so dynamic and emotional, good vocals and exciting work on keyboards and guitar, the best Heavy Prog I have heard since Ayreon
![]() ![]() By the way, if Periferic Records can't help you with Riverside albums,
I have one alternative for you
