Grindcore and math rock? that sounds like Dillinger Escape Plan, not Don Caballero....Don Cab isn't really that heavy at all

Patience friends. I'm only one guy handling the genre at the moment so the addition process is a bit slow, but rest assured that many bands will find a place to call home in PA.
![]()
Are they really math rock? I've been listening to Hypermagic Mountain for some months now and I've always seen them as a Noise Rock band. This doesn't mean that they're any less prog, but its hard to place them under one of the existing PA genres. The ZAR team are the ones with Lightning Bolt's custody for now and, as far as I know, they're cleared for addition. |

Tera Melos is excellent! They are doing a lot more for me than Don Cab.

^^^ Now those guys are crazy! Have you seen their live videos here in PA?
http://www.progarchives.com/media.asp?id=966 I always have mixed feelings with these guys. Sometimes the music is just too jagged, but that same characteristic is a good thing in other songs like in "40 Rods to the Hog's Head" They added a singer to their music in their split with By The End Of Tonight. Good stuff. |

I'm really liking the diversity of it, it's not non stop Avante technical madness throughout the entire album.

They've been approved for a while to Avant. You want to write the bio? |

Yeah, I like Tera Melos more than Don Cab, I don't know why....has nothing to do with the heaviness either
I keep forgetting that I want to write a review of their debut really badly, which is nearly flawless with the exception of Melody 8 Edited by heyitsthatguy - December 15 2007 at 12:21 |

The recently added band Tenebre is quite appealing to me:
http://myspace.com/tenebre It's not terribly complex; i'd describe them as a version of Don Cab. that has the intention of making more structured & soothing songs that aren't too demanding of the listener. (the acoustic fretless bass works supprisingly well and adds a hearty groove element) It's has hight priority in my to buy list; i'll surely write a review after i get it. This thread deserves a bump as it is :) Edited by Dominic - January 08 2008 at 03:39 |

^^^ People are really looking at the latest math rock additions?!
![]() Good to see you like Tenebre's music. I recommend Auto!Automatic!! and Acturus if you like your math rock to be less relentless and more melodic. |

Thanks for keeping my hopes up. Giraffes? Giraffes! will be added really soon to the archives and they sound like those bands I mentioned in their debut, but in their sophomore effort they got edgier.
Here are some samples: http://www.myspace.com/giraffesgiraffes |

For me, one of the quintessential math rock albums is Hella's "Hold Your Horse Is". Although on PA they are listed in the RIO/Avant section. I'd definitely peg them as math rock though.
I'd recommend that album to anyone interested in exploring the highly-technical side of math rock. The drumming on it is quite amazing... |

^^^ We're in the process of moving Math Rock artists that have been added to the Avant-prog section before the Math Rock genre existed. Ahleuchatistas, I Am Above On The Left and a handful of other bands are going to be moved from one genre to the other.

Thanks for the recommendations. About Acturus, did you mean "Arcturus" because that band is listed under extreme metal though i couldn't find anything in the archives under "Acturus" (only a french electronica band with a google search) It's good to see that the Math bands under the Avant subgenre are getting moved. I had wondered why Ahleuchatistas (their new album has been one of my fav. releases this year) were under the Avant subgenre rather then Post/Math. |
