Topic: The Ultimate PA Album List Posted: December 09 2007 at 22:18 |
I've seen this concept in other forums and decided to bring it here to PA. I'll start off with something interesting enough, everyone's favorite albums. Ever feel like the top 50/100 on the front page didn't reflect the tastes of the users well enough? Well now, I will compile a list of the top ___ albums of the site's members (the number of albums depends on participation) Basically here's how it goes. Every member who wants to participate will post a list of their favorite albums. Preferably no less than 50 but no more than 250. These can be any album, not just restricted prog albums. This is open to everyone on PA. Of course, I'll give ample time for people to compile and order. The voting will work as such: since the limit is 250 albums per list, the #1 album on your list will receive 250 points, #2 will get 249 and so on and so forth... You're not required to post 250 albums, just do as many as you like up to 250. I hope this experiment works. Wouldn't it be cool to have a somewhat definitive list of albums by our site's members? This can work only if you all participate so start thinking of lists now. You can edit or add to your list until the due date. Tentative Due Date: January 27th, 2008 I apologize in advance for the number of times I will bump this thread for publicity reasons. If you have any questions, feel free to post them in this thread or PM me. Happy listing! UPDATE: Out of courtesy, please indicate edits so i can make the correct changes for my tally. This can be done by bold, underline, italics, asterisks, anything to show what has been edited. UPDATE 2: Due date change. Hopefully this will encourage more votes as well as more time for me to publicize as well as everyone else who worked on a list and wants this to work well (please?).

Hmm, so any album can be picked eh? The Stones will rub shoulders with Devin Townsend.

I think you should make it your top ten or less. Honestly most people can't even think of 50 albums they liked, in order, and even if they can they probably wont take the time to make a list anyway.
So maybe top 10...and then you'll make the 50 yourself out of the points gotten from those lists

1 Chronicles 13:7-9
Then David and all Israel played music before God with all their might, with singing, on harps, on stringed instruments, on tambourines, on cymbals, and with trumpets.

He is giving us three weeks. Besides, if it needs to be narrowed, make it 25 or 30. If it's the top ten we'll get the same damn answers.

Exactly. I don't want only TaaB or WYWH over and over. There is no minimum amount, but I encourage you to give as many as possible for sake of diversity. Also, it's not like your list will haunt you for the rest of your time on PA. If you put album A in front of album B in December, it's not like you can't change your mind. In fact, I'll allow edits and additions until the due date. (should probably add that)

Fifty is a bit much for me, too. I would start naming albums I kind of liked at that point.

Nothing wrong with that. In fact, that's what it's supposed to be. Which deserves a spot more, an album adored by just one person or an album that a lot of people kinda like? (The latter, no?)

I like the idea. But we sort of already have a list kinda like this.....want to do top ARTISTS instead? Or, in addition? At a later date? Yes?
Anyway, I'll still post my top 50 (or so) albums. In a bit.

I seriously can't do this. I can't put my favorite albums in order of preference, it would have taken a lot longer than three weeks for me. I promise!
