That's all my point. Some irony is good (I love it) but that was not even ironic, that was... humor-less..... he has all the right to say that but the consequences were obvious. If he just wanted to piss people off, he did it. (I don't think so).

Anyway, that also doesn't give the right to nobody to call somebody else an idiot. That's what I'm talking about when I say "idiotic rants".

Certif1ed has been here awhile and has seen much combat, maybe he just got a bit fed up... other than that, I don't see his comments being any worse than others in this thread

Just a minute. I'm not a prog-metal fanboy at all. I love symphonic prog and post-rock just as much as prog-metal, so the unfounded claims about that are completely false.

Secondly, there have been continuous complaints in similar threads about prog-metal, and you just go in there, complete with delusions of grandeur from some sort of musical knowledge you have, and blatently put down prog-metal in general, seemingly just to annoy people.

And you can quit the patronising crap immediately, you may have been here longer than me, whether that makes you think you're more entitled to sl*g people off with unfounded comments, I don't know.

And yes, thanks for telling me that other people have different ideas, I accept them and take them as they should be. Subjective. Yet it's the way you phrase things and completely make a genre YOU disagree, something miniscule and insignificant.

Get over yourself. You're not quite the messiah-like figure you think you are.

you know what i think?

i think they shouldn't change at all.. in fact, i think they should be even more overtech, even more self-indulgent, pretentious, "commercial" and they should shamelessly continue to rip off uncut Rush and Yes themes.. may they live and prosper for many many years...

am i being ironiic? not at all...

they are the reason i am here and so they are for most of the progheads younger than 30.. so, as long as they introduce prog music to the world, i have absolutely no problem..

bear in mind that SDOIT, Octavarium and SC were a huge dissapointment to me but that doesn't matter...

on top of that, not only fans, but many of the bands that are in PA's database wouldn't be here, if it weren't for them...

go ask Inside Out and Magna where they would be right now if it weren't for them...

face it, dudes: Marillion and DT held prog alive in the 80's and 90's, correspondingly...

Marginal note: The thread attempts to spot how many things does DT need to fix their supposed flaws....... I don't like them; still I agree with those who say (specially The T) that DT doesn't need anything. Why must they need something? To fit our tastes? To make them similar to the bands we like?

Now....... who's arguing DT's popularity? Please, all we know that they are responsible of the general approach to prog for those who didn't live the 70's; perhaps together with Pink Floyd, in the old stuff side.

We haven't to face anything; I think we all know that prog has never dead and there were bands which kept it alive...... Now, "correspondingly"? Perhaps in your opinion Wink

Let's better keep discussing what does DT need and what doesn't (according to the central question).

Dream Theater just needs to stop making the same album over and over again and try to think of something new.

Yes. Why don't they just stop being Dream Theater?
No two albums ever really sound the same, it's merely the same style, you find that with most bands.

I guess there are as many opinions as people, so, what can they do? easy, what they want to do. I suppose they don't need to convince anybody, just do the music they like. And I'm happy about that.
Anyway "Metropolis Revisited" could be a good idea, what do you think?  Embarrassed

Dreamtheater needs to be more prog and less mainstreem...So I can enjoy them as much as I enjoy Ayreon.

lol(just playing)...Yes its a fine band...although I dislike that virtuoso soloing that remind me of the guitar creeps:

Creep 1:Look at me I PLAY FASTER THAN YOU!

Creep2:Look at me I PLAY BETTER THAN YOU!

Creep 3:Look at me I PLAY IN A DIFFERENT WAY!

Creep 1:Wow dude...that's progressively stupid...stop listening to King Crimson and early Gensis and go listen to Dreamtheater or even Metallica!

Creep 3:dude I wanna play different cuz it gives a true meaning of art...Music is art you know.

Creep 2:Yeah sure dude...We just wanna look cool and do fast solos to impress uncultered teenagers who makes us stupid idols.

Creep1:Oh well...I guess the world of music is getting infected by Joe Satchs all over the place...

Crepp2:Its Still Cool!

Damn...Music is art...and people forget about it...sometimes pisses me off.
What is This?
It is what keeps us going...

what does Dream Theater need... could go back into my accumulated joke/gag bag of jokes tossed out over these years.. but for once will be serious.

a change in direction...  do something different...  the only worse than being bad... is being boring and bad.

Dream Theater need to be tickled under the chin until they roll on to their back, at which point they should have their belly rubbed and to be told, "you're such a cute little kitten."

Actually, I don't know. I've never enjoyed a minute of their music, so my advice will be like "They should listen to more Art Bears" or "taken outside and shot" or that sort of thing. I just chose to be sweet instead of malicious. =)
