Oh, poor dilluded me...

I for one think that as this site is obviously in many ways run by perverse b*****ds and poor dilluded pseudo-intellectual high school and college students (and they call themselves prog-reviewers, huh...), this enlightened fellow shouldn't be able to have access here.
It would be for his own good, if he hadn't got the chance to use this perverted site...

Or well...maybe a message from an admin concerning all this [&*!#] would do the trick.

Though, they're quite amusing, these KC776 reviews...still, not very intelligent nor appropriate...

The review is okay, albeit a bit harsh, therefore it might be a bit offensive to someone...that's the only bad thing about it. He is entitled to his opinion and he expressed himself, even explained why (not very detailed though).

Personaly, I stronlgy disagree, I think the album is a milestone of prog for the new century, but don't take it  too personal. I enjoy TMV too, I'm not offended.

I don't think that he went about doing his review in a politically correct manner, but I don't disagree with some of his points.  I am new to listening to The Mars Volta, and have some opinions that are similar to those that he less than elegantly stated.

The problem is not that he doesn't like the album nor anything negative he says about it. Reviews are editorial and based on opinion. The problem lies in stepping outside the album to insult its listeners, same with his Sleepytime....review.  It really tends to be rather close to stepping over the review guidelines IMHO. Also he likes Tool - Lateralus which I had to refrain from writing an almost identical review about.   E2sling

I made a mistake when reviewing "Definitivement Bleus", and the review appeared in "Neuf Songes"corresponds to "Definitivement Bleus". This review should be deleted.

WAKEMAN, RICK — My Inspiration
Review by Easy Livin (Bob McBeath)
Admin Group Forum Moderator & Reviews Manager

— First review of this album —

3%20stars In an inspired move, they removed one of the discs

"My inspiration" is a rather curious compilation which draws its tracks from just two albums. The albums concerned are "White rock 2" (a studio recording") and "Official live bootleg" (a live album recorded in Argentina). The three disc release includes all the tracks on those albums, while the two disc version simply omits disc 3 without any change in the track order. The three disc version was released first, but subsequently withdrawn. Bizarrely, all the tracks on the two albums would have fitted easily onto two discs.

The tracks are mixed together in rather haphazard order with no apparent effort having been made to come up with a logical sequence.

The "White rock 2" tracks pale in comparison to the original album of that name. They are simply drawn out keyboard renditions of weak themes which challenge neither Rick's compositional skills or his performing ability. Simply put, Rick can churn out two or three tracks like those here in a morning, and still have time to walk the dog round the island.

The "Official bootleg" tracks are more interesting, as they are taken from a 1993 tour Rick did with his son Adam. These recordings are from a Buenos Aries, Argentina gig (but not the 1997 one which is available on DVD). Included is a full length instrumental only rendition of "Journey to the centre of the earth" and a 12+ minute medley from "King Arthur". Rick and Adam combine on both pieces to create a symphonic sound which more than adequately substitutes for the orchestra on the originals.

The remaining pieces include a couple "Six wives" tracks, and a pair of covers. The rendition of "Catherine Parr" offers a wonderfully adventurous take on the piece, while retaining the integrity of the original. The Beatles "Eleanor Rigby" and the Rolling Stones "Paint it black" are just opportunities for Rick and Adam to have a bit of fun.

In all, a reasonable way to obtain the two albums at a budget price. The presentation is however very poor, with no booklet or information of any sort. Check the number of discs you are getting before buying too!

I don't want comment on the actual review, but I'd like to warn possible buyers to be cautious with this release. I happened to buy it several months ago (it was quite cheap, truth be told), and there seems to be a problem with this edition. Basically, I got it with disc 2 instead of disc 1, I got disc 2 two times. I had to change it, but with something different, there was no other copy in stock.

Definitely a troll, with a very apt screen name. I think this is a case in which his IP should be blocked big time.

On a less serious note, as I have resumed writing reviews, I though you'd reported one of mineLOL...

Yep... But his other review, of Led Zeppelin IV, is not that bad. Actually, he gave it four stars!

Hey when are we finally going to be able to have half-star ratings? There are so many times when I think an album isn't quite a 5 star masterpiece, but deserves more than a 4. So what are we supposed to do about that? I'm sure a lot of other people agree.

Plus, I don't know about all of you, but there's so many albums that I really enjoy that I need more than 2 ratings to distinguish ones I think are above the level of "good."

Another thing I seriously think we need is the ability to freely edit our reviews and ratings. People's opinions change and sometimes you just make mistakes in reviews that you want to fix up. And sometimes people just don't want to take the time to go through an admin to change it. Is it too much to ask for editing privileges?

There are other threads on half stars, it would be better if we do not get embroiled in that discussion here. This thread is for discussing individual reviews.

Likewise, the issue of editing reviews has come up a few times, and is a general issue. Prog Reviewers and SCs can edit their reviews, so there's the incentive to become one.Wink
