Barbara Dennerlein is an exciting discovery, on one blues solo on her Best Of compilation CD she switches on the drawbars, incredible, what a blend of technique and emotion Thumbs%20Up
Later this evening I will watch an Atomic Rooster DVD and a DVD with Santana, Grateful Dead and Jefferson Airplane on one evening in San Fransisco in 1970, lots of Hammond to enjoy the forthcoming hours! Reviews follow tomorrow.

I have always said Barbara is the best on the Hammond; her foot technique is incredible. Friede and I have been to a concert of her, and to see that foot in perpetual motion is an amazing sight. At one point she did a double foot solo on the pedals (she usually uses her right foot for volume control) without keys which would have made many a bass player put away his bass forever.
As great as she is though I think she is not fitted for the archives because her territory is jazz, although sometimes she really rocks; just have a look at this video (and listen to the incredible bass lines she plays with her foot):

WOW, so many Jon Lord fans Clap I would like to recommend this DVD to you:

JON LORD WITH THE HOOCHIE COOCHIE MEN – Live At The Basement (live 2003)

In 2003 John Lord was asked to perform at the Sydney Opera House with the Queensland Orchestra, a dream came true for him because he had always loved to play there once. He also booked a few smaller venues but unfortunately he got injured so he could hardly play the Grand piano. The contact with an old Australian friend on the bass named Bob Daisley led to the  temporary formation of Jon Lord With The Hoochie Coochie Men, this DVD is the excellent registration of a concert the band gave in 2003. As a huge fan of the Heavy Prog by Deep Purple, I was very curious to Jon Lord his role in this band. Well, it’s straight 12-bar blues (like Stevie Ray Vaughan) and Jon is clearly happy with it, he delivers an outstanding, very inspired job like many exciting solos, especially in Lonesome Traveller Blues, the classic Green Onions (swirling with great use of the drawbars) and the final song 12 Bar Blow Jam. The band plays tight (with good guitar play and pleasant work on the harmonica) and enthousiastically, in two songs there is a contribution by Jimmy Barnes. He sings very emotionally and expressive, it's very compelling to listen to the interplay between his vocals and John his bluesy Hammond organ sound. This is a DVD to check out if you like blues and the Hammond organ!

Easy Money, I read your Brian Auger "Auger's Live Oblivion Express Volume 2", for sure I am going to check it out for my Hammond article.

Mystic Fred, I saw Don Airey with Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow, excellent keyboardplayer and I love his Minimoog work in Colosseum II but on the Hammond he's very good too Thumbs%20Up

Sound v. interesting - andI like a lot of Jimmy Barnes' work - pub rock band singer par excellence, who did some fine work with Cold Chisel in the 80's - Swingshift their live album has some Hammond.

This post belongs in the other Hammond thread Easy Money Wink

About Jim Morrison, I have read all the books about The Doors and Jim Morrison, it's incredible that the other members had so much patience with Jim, only Jim Densmore frequently opposed against Jim his often sociopathic behaviour.

Hey Erik, Congratulation dude!!! Part 4 was the best yet, I really enjoyed the personal stories, very touching in a lot of ways. Its funny how a musical instrument can bring out strong emotions in people.
It was interesting to hear how the Hammond's inventor hated jazz and blues. I bet Lord (on In Rock) and Emerson (in the Nice) would seem like living nightmares.
Thanks for including the "shout outs" to my musical compadres. There are so many great unrecognized musicians out there.
P.S. I just realized Morrison is passed out in the above picture, the band doesn't seem too suprised.

Incidentally - re the differences between the C3 & B3; it really is just the cabinet - one story I read was that the C3 was more popular as a church organ, as the new cabinet meant you couldn't see the female organists' legs.

4 days 7 hours to go, now up to 52 bids & £4,050.00 (approx $9000 US), this could be a biggie!

It is a beauty, though...

I have decided to publish my Hammond Special on Tuesday evening, today I will PM some collaborators to inform about their contributions to that Hammond Special. For me it's hard to make it not too extensive, so many choices concerning Hammond pioneers, masters and specialists and even more choices concerning my favorite 'Hammond drenched' CD's and DVD's Wacko For example, yesterday I played a new CD entitled Areknames Live, this one should be mentioned in the Hammond Special, what an exciting work on the Hammond organ Clap

Chicapah, I may not complain about what I have seen (from Yes with GFTO and Pink Floyd with The Wall to UK, early Peter Gabriel and early Hackett) but sometimes I wish that I was born a decade earlier so I could have experienced those exciting Sixties and seen The Doors, Jimi Hendrix, Vanilla Fudge and Syd Barrett Pink Floyd.. but this is compensated with my huge video/DVD including lots of Sixties footage.

Yes, I'll admit that I am ancient but I spent my formative years in the glorious 60s when prog was born and I wouldn't trade that experience for anything.
