Topic: Amy Winehouse ... Class or Trash ? Posted: November 15 2007 at 09:36 |
This isn't a prog poll its a music poll however , I'm just curious what prog fans think of Amy Winehouse ? heres your chance to voice your opinion. Us prog fans need to sometimes look in other areas to see whats happening Amy seems to be making a big splash at the moment for some reason.

Musically or as a person? I don't really know her or her music, but my intuition says "trash".

Undeniably a great singer, obviously going through some problems at the moment, in fact she's making Pete Docherty look like a nun.

I can forgive an artists iniquities, but bad music is unforgivable.

I dont understand what all the fuss about her is, I hate the nasel quality of her voice, and her song writing is rubbish as well.

I can buy into that. Logically, if I consider things I don't know or have not heard to be "trash", then there is nowhere to go from there than up. It gives them the benefit of never being able to dissapoint me.
Seriously though, who the heck is Amy Winehouse? Does she own a liquor store?

Just a ruckus-causing nobody who nicked and debased certain aspects of 60s soul. Less exciting than a train wreck yet garners more media attention than one.

She's the one who didn't want to go to rehab and said "No, no, no", right?
I really don't know.

^^ I see she's cancelled all her forthcoming tour dates....
...frankly, even using the world's most powerful microscope, I still wouldn't be able to locate my interest in this woman....

^ Those press comments are what really make it ugly! Ok, Amy Winehouse, Pete Doherty and not to forget Britney Spears seem to have severe mental problems, but what they need is help rather than the next article on their behaviour. I'm not at all a fan of those three, but I think that they - as everybody else - deserve to be treated with some dignity, even if they obviously lost their's on several occasions. Musically I don't even know what Winehouse does - I'll have to get an impression of it somehow.

not quite nowhere, she is a graduate of both Sylvia Young Theatre School (which gave us such luminaries as Robbie WIlliams and the Appleton Sisters) and The BRIT School for Performing Arts & Technology (alumni include Kate's Nash and Melua) - i.e. she arrived prefabricated and flat-packed for easy assembly (and as always with such things, a few screws missing ).
First disapointment was Frank wasn't about Mr Zappa and the second was that Back To Black wasn't a hommage to AC/DC.

I agree that these people need help sometimes, but they come from a 'trashy' system that leads them to this direction. And as ' prefabricated' they don't get the chance to re-assemble themselves...

Some of her stuff has some cool jazz moments, a bit too poppy though.
