I was just looking through the Archhives here and notice no Loreena Mckennitt. I very much think she is prog as well as numerous other prog sites out there. I'll admit that perhaps she may not be considered rock but neither is Renaissance in my opinion either., and if you think Annie Haslin has a great voice, wait to you hear Loreena's!!

I notice this site has Amazing Blondel so why not Loreena???????

Has anyone else heard McKennitt's material( I would be highly surprised if no-one has) and what do you think. Prog or no Prog??

Loreena has been mentioned many times here, especially on our favorite lists.  But she isn't really prog..and she doesn't consider herself that way.  In most things I've read on her, she considers herself folk & celtic new age . I would think that Enya would be here before Loreena would.  Clannad is another band that considers themselves to be celtic, and I think Enya evolved that sound into something more international.

Agree with Threefates, many Celtic oriented artists and bands  release some tracks that soundvery close to prog', especially to Canterbury, that's the case of Loreena Mckennitt, Steeleye Span or Fairport Convention, but I don't believe they can be considered prog' bands or artists, mainly because they would hate to be considered prog' when they are so proud of their Celtic inheritance.

On the Other hand Renaissance sounds prog' to me, even when they have a Celtic root, they went further and explored fusion of diferent genres, specially symphonic and Arabic music.

Well I don't like to endorse other prog sites but I will to back my argument.

New Gibralter has her listed and would consider that quite a reputable site. Perhaps even more extensive than this one, but without the forum so this one is cooler.

Also I would like to make a case on whether Loreena McKennitt considers herself prog or not. Well Peter Hammill doesn't either but we don't buy into that now....do we?

Well Gdub411, GEPR is surely more extensive and of course more eclectic, they have listed a Peruvian band We All Together as Prog', even when I send a review (already posted) in which I describe this band as the antithesis of progressive Rock.

Must say that even my article is the only one (mostly because I'm one of the few that followed their performances because they are from my country), they left it in the archives.

I love the music of LMcK, but I do think it would be stretching things a bit to call her music prog rock. She is very talented, and her music is beautifully melodic and extremely well structured, but yes, i think it's more Celtic/folk, influenced.

I had the pleasure of seeing her in concert a few years ago, she was superb.

By the way Ivan, have you heard "One more chance" by Fairport Convention from their "Rising for the moon album", the last with Sandy? It's as close to prog as they ever got, an excellent track indeed.

There's no right or wrong Gdub, maybe 20 of us will assure she's not prog' and 20 more believe she's prog', it's a matter of opinions, especially when we're talking about non-commercial genres that are very close one to another.

Probably I have heard it Easy Livin, but sincerely I can't remember, I like Fairport Convention but I don't follow their careers, a mistake I will try not to repeat, because their music is outstanding.
