This reviewer...I mean rater, is clearly genre slamming. I find it hard to believe that they sought out 30 albums in a genre they don't like and listened to them long enough to appropriately rate them.

I've moved this to the Reviews discussion so we can talk about it further. Which genre are you referring to?

if you look at the list of the reviews and their ratings, I think it's quite clear the guy in question is trying to slam Prog Metal (surprise surprise!Wink), while he's definitely a fan of Symphonic.

I find this person a bit interesting too. Looks like he/she joined August 22nd and started logging reviews an hour later, with over 200 done by the next day. Most of those reviews are only a minute or two apart, and none has any accompanying text. I'm just impressed they were able to navigate the site that quickly; when I joined it took me about a week to figure out how to post a review, and another few weeks before I realized it was something I could/should/wanted to, do. This guy seems to be on a mission.

maybe not Andu....... but to remind you all.... look at the guidelines for rating the albums.

He has all the right in the world to give them 1 star.  This is a prog website.. some people might have problems giving 5 stars.. or even 3 stars to albums which aren't prog.

In my book..no harm ... no foul...  without a written review they are useless anyway.  Since we allow those kind of reviews... can't really clamp down on this guy can we. Just because you may not agree.

This is why I am on the side of the "No reviewless ratings" facton.  If you look at the  timing of many of the ratings, it was within the span of time that the albums he rated would have been on the front page after the previous review, or at the very least, in the last 50 reviews.  Now, are they useless? Sure, if he comes on and rates "Foxtrot" or "Images and Words", not going to touch the overall score. But when a first review is written (see the tremendous list of unreviewed albums http://www.progarchives.com/UnreviewedAlbums.asp ), particularly when it is written by a non-collaborator, it totally skews the rating.  What it does from a reviewers standpoint is eliminates the subjectivity of the rating. Instead of giving 3 or 4 stars to an album that may not be for everybody, I'll just give 5 if I like it since I know that some person who has pretty likely not even listened to the album can wipe out 33% of the score.

that  presumes an awful lot.... that he intended to f**k around and manipulate ...some do ..some don't.  It is like the cost of our feedoms here.... in order to preserve freedoms for all.. sometimes the guilty walk.  Everyone has a voice here.... or an attempt at a voice that is LOL.   Unless you can prove it.. which you can't.. what you are in effect doing is eliminating reviews you don't agree with...and by the same measure as he is accused of... simply f**king around and manipulating the ratings.   Too many here care too much about that stupid crap. It is a popularity contest.. and the votes of those who hate the albums have as much voice as those who love them.

Nothing is hurt by allowing everyone to have their say... the boss wants it... and if he does he have to allow it... any removing or editting of reviewless reviews does amount to censorship in a way.  If it were up to me.. I'd get rid of them...and non collab reviews from the front page.  People are promoted to prog reviewers for their reviewing skills.. and they should be spotlighted.  Simply make collab only reviews the default setting. .with the option to show all reviews if someone wants to see them.

Not who can rate the most Krautrock albums 1 star. It is a popularity contest.. and the votes of those who hate the albums have as much voice as those who love them. That's right, the albums not the genres.

Nothing is hurt by allowing everyone to have their say...uh, I just outlined how it does the boss wants it... and if he does he have to allow it...ok, you have a keen perception for the obvious any removing or editting of reviewless reviews does amount to censorship in a way.  Hmmm....making people not say nothing to say something is censorship? I'd like to see the math on that. And of course would have to do the equation with weighted rating points.  If it were up to me.. I'd get rid of them...and non collab reviews from the front page.  People are promoted to prog reviewers for their reviewing skills.. and they should be spotlighted.  Simply make collab only reviews the default setting. .with the option to show all reviews if someone wants to see them. I agree. It would make the site a bit more authorative. I've seen some pretty bad reviews on the front page. But then again, wordy doesn't always equal good.

Something tells me the only constructive thing to come from this will be that I have come up with the term "genrecide". Forgive me if somebody thought of it already.

1%20stars No. No. No... No. Look, I don't even know where to start with this band, but I'd best start to gather my fragmented thoughts as this band of idiot flesh has killed any sort of natural flow in my brain. Basically, this is either a bunch of pretentious dip[&*!#]s, or people who are laughing their asses off at anyone who gave this album a 5 star based on how much artistic value this music has. Look, people, you have to realize, not every weird ass band that is doing something unusual is good, never mind progressive. I can't even bring myself to go into how progressive this music is, I'll just say it's degressive in the most horrible way. It's perpetuating the psuedo alternative/progressive mindset that is afflicting so many people these days, and this mindset can do no good, it can only lead people farther astray from what music and art and even entertainment should be, and I really would not like to see human culture go into the void like this (I guess I was able to bring myself). Now if you're some perverse b*****d who likes this exactly because this music is so pointless and [%*!#]ed up and you're laughing at everyone who takes it seriously and how down the drain we are as a race to give this band any sort of praise at all, well that's fine. But you know what would be even more epic? If we saved the world. You read me. If we were somehow able to pull modern society out of the void and bask in truth, with no need, nay; there's never any need, no desire to have pretentions about being satanic when really you're a stupid hipster who doesn't realize the damage (however miniscule it is) they are doing on the already malaise-filled population of pseudo-heads that are becoming stupider and more prevalent by the day. That's what I want, and I think if any of the perverse b*****ds I refered to were to be honest with themselves, and give up any contempt they have for the human race, then they would want the same thing. Portraying vague satanic concepts over crappy music is not cool, even Pitchdork media should realize that.

This review calls me a pervert b*****d. And I thought that on PA nobody will notice! LOL

You know, the funny thing about a review like that is that it's practically a recommendation to a perverse b*****d like me... surely only great art can elicit such an extreme reaction?
