heat's not the problem - I can eat a chilli that would strip-paint - I don't like the flavourings of cumin, coriander and tumeric.

Interesting, as those three are basic to many a curry.
How about Jamaican jerk?
Here's one:
Thyme, allspice, scotch bonnet peppers, and garlic are key ingredients in this recipe. Use this authentic spicy jerk rub on chicken, pork, fish, or vegetables.

yes c'mon now, no serious jab was meant, all cultures have both delicious and ridiculous things to eat.. the English have certainly taken a beating in the culinary world, but that's just misinformed nonsense.. ever had properly roasted marrow? how about a good Stilton, in fact the English have produced some of the most flavorful dishes in the world.. and don't get me started on fish and chips

My point is (and I'm saying this for the last time) I never thought I'd see a "How can YOU AMERICANS possibly do this or that" in a thread about cooking. Yes, it's very minor, but yet another generalization about Americans. That's it. Period. I wasn't accusing anyone of a hate crime.
If I didn't read generalizations on a consistent basis here at PA, I would probably overlook it. Pick a scab once, no big deal; constantly jab at it and it starts to get abrasive. E |

... and for the record, I'm always apprehensive to add too many herbs and spices at the risk of masking out the root flavor. If anything, I scale back.

Speaking as an American or a USer, we do go a bit overboard sometimes, but at our best we can often be sort of an international nexus.

Dude, the shelving unit above your TV is bowing so much that it looks like it's grinning. ![]() And I've never traveled abroad, so I've got nothing to compare it to. Well, if you ever want to smoke anything yourself, I'd highly recommend checking into a Cameron stove top smoker...
And of course if the company want's to send me some money for the endorsement of some free smokers to hand out as gifts, I'll be thankful and keep it under wraps. :) Edited by Slartibartfast - November 05 2007 at 17:44 |

Sounds nice - I wish I had a smoker....
YOU AMERICANS sure know how to deal with porc ![]() Tonight was 'double filled' vegetable soup with cheese buns, monday is music night so we tend to keep it simple and quick (straight out of work I take my daughter to flute (Ian Anderson type) lessons, then we have dinner, and then I'm off to bass practise).
