Thanks.
And it is! Especially now that Assaf is really going with all these new recommendation threads, not to mention this thread...I'm always checking for samples or reading PA bios...somedays I have more work here to do.

What exactly is the legality of that? It seems as if it should be illegal, but I couldn't find that album anywhere in a quick search (which I think severely decreases the problems with downloading it) and that seems to be the case for most of his posts.

I don't think it's an issue w/ stuff like this that is not in print or was never released in CD format, but must be burned from an old vinyl lp. That's the point - to make unavailable stuff available to fans. Let me tell you, I've done my searching for a lot I've discovered this way, but I have no choice but to buy a used lp [if i can afford it - if the item's really rare, the prices get absurd!] - but the artist gets no royalties anyway. Someone out there has a huge [and often quite wondrous!] list of titles that many want re-released on CD, but if there's not a large enough market/the work's too obscure, it never will. This way the artist's work doesn't just perish into the mists of oblivion just because the technology has changed.

tee hee, 'tis quite quiet!
Listened through the Urban Sax/Pierre Henry split, though I must admit, with some skepticism. Big fan of Urban Sax's sound, though their 2nd album has gotten lost with the shambles of my concrete filing system, now, Pierre Henry is a different kettle of fish, from as early as I can remember, his somewhat 'dated' electronics irritated my ears. So, I was expecting this record to fall somewhere between bliss and irritation. Now really sure what to think of it yet, but I liked it more than I was expecting. |

ah well - I really liked it, but then again my pechant for those 'dated' electonics may stem from teen yrs spent often inundated by them w/ princeton comp/electronic music dept. crew..sorry if i mislead.. : (
aaanyway, speaking of L'Infonie [Geck0]- have you seen this?:
"
Riley, Terry/L'Infonie - Reed StreamsSKU 16/ELISION FIELDS 104
We live in amazing musical times. Until this was reissued a few years ago (it then went out of print and is now back again, thankfully), this was a record that few had seen and that never was available. Now you can get an excellent quality reissue with an amazing bonus! This is a reissue of Terry's 1st, tiny-label album (Reed Streams)from 1966 (which went out of print almost immediately), newly remastered from the original tapes and, as a bonus, there is the entire 2nd album by the infamous Canadian psychedelic/anarchistic ensemble L'Infonie, which was originally released as Vol. 33, but better known as Mantra. Mantra is a psychedelic big band adaption of In C, and here it is complete in all its glory!

Cleo, no miss leading at all, I was still overjoyed to listen to more Urban Sax material. I know a lot of people like Pierre Henry, I just have never been able to 'get into him', though strangely I'm more than happy to listen to many French electro-acoustic artist of the time e.g. Luc Ferrari BTW, Reed Streams looks almighty tasty :) |

Luc Ferrari is a tricky one, I only own two albums: Tautologos and other early electronic works and Far-west news: episode n1, both are very different. The earlier disc is a compilation of his early electronic pieces from '58 - '66, while the latter is half field recording, half symphony. If you are interested I can send some samples from that compilation disc?

Yes indeed, I would appreciate that indeed! [when you have a chance of course..
re: terry riley - listening now..it's nice, but a bit too on the minimalism side for my taste..I like it as, well, ambient/background music really, but it just doesn't engage my focus or passion too much..[I like my riffs!]. The second piece now - I'm liking this much better..very good.. Have a cdr of Mantra, and I really wanted that so it is why..

nice review Igor. tee hee, avant-garde only gets further away from 'so called' musical values when you drop to rock influences ;) |

Indeed it is, along with the last sig I supported (the madhatters tea party). I have a little obsession with Alice in Wonderland. Does the use of 'used to adore' suggest you no longer find him an interesting chap?

oh no, not at all..i just used to be rather fetishistic about him..he's so - otherwordly..this marvelous sinuousness..he has an ingenious sensitivity to the line that is downright sensuous, and magic imo..oh! and his sense of colour is utterly delectable.. He always touched me particularly because I don't often find myself inclined to illustrators - generally I find the work a bit too pop-ish, or garish, or obvious...he has a 'fine' artist's sensibility..visionary..
