Allow me to recommend (again, but now they're here) the newest addition to PA:
 
C'est Mortel* and their great s/t release C'est Mortel.
 
Here's Ruben's bio:
C'est Mortel is basically a side-project by Tom Naumann and Mason Brown from the Athens, Georgia, band, Jet by Day. The band was formed in 2000 and the idea behind this project was too play something different from what they were previously doing and that's exactly what they achieved with C'est Mortel. Naumann and Brown recruited several musicians from the Athens area like Devin Brown, Brett Griffin, and David Specht to play on this new side-project. The band's music is a combination of the heaviness from Progressive Metal, the delicateness of Post-Rock and the epics from Progressive Rock. C'est Mortel's songwriting is very similar to that of Progressive Rock artists, they mostly (if not only) write epics ranging over the 30-40 minute mark and feature a lot of changes in themes and dynamics. They released their debut in 2002 and it was well received by the media. C'est Mortel is currently inactive since Naumann and Brown are focusing more on their main band, Jet By Day.

C'est Mortel is a tough band to pin down. They mix effortlessly Prog Metal, Post-Rock and Prog Rock without sounding patchy. They're one of the few Post-Rock bands that have admittedly been influenced by Progressive Rock. Highly recommended for Prog Rock fans looking for something new while still staying true to their roots and for fans of Post-Rock looking for a bit more complexity in their music.

I notice you guys have Steve Hillage, but not his electronic project System 777. I assume because of its relation to the rave scene, but this is highly inventive original music not generic dance "electronica".

Calle Debauche are an interesting and original bandfrom Arizona. They have just self-released their album Potemkin Carnival.

why they are not in PA?


I totally recommend that album too. If you like La Máquina de Hacer Pájaros you're definitely going to like this one too.
It's probably not on PA because Sui Generis were more a folk rock band, leaded by Charly Garcia, who was later the leader of La Maquina de hacer Pajaros and Seru Giran, both on PA. Sui Generis released 3 studio albums, the first 2 were very folk oriented but the 3rd one, though keeping some of the sound of the first 2 on a couple of songs, has a more proggy sound, especially noticed by the use of synthesizers, wich clearly shows the direction Charly was taking in his music, then forming La maquina de hacer pajaros.

Brian Godding also appears on Magma's Kohntarkorsz album. Two contributions, duet with Christian Vander and ‘prepared guitar ‘ on Yanik Top’s Mechanik Machine.


Guitarist, Jim Cregan along with drummer Poli Palmer had a spell in Family,Cregan then produced and recorded with his future wife,Linda Lewis.He was also the guitarist in Steve Harley's Cockney Rebel playing the acoustic,spanish style guitar solo in Come Up and See Me (Make Me Smile) and he was a member of Rod Stewarts's band during his 'Hot Legs' period.


Listen also to Julie Driscoll's album, 1969, recorded in 1971.

Robert Wyatt's Comicopera is my recommendation.

It's fantastic.  It's his best album since Rock Bottom and the album of the year and millenium so far.

I don't like to blow Robert Wyatt's trumpet, but I will.

Buy it, listen to it, enjoy it.  It's amazing.

Brian Godding is still playing jazz rock - re-issued his solo album Slaughter On Shaftsbury Avenue on CD last year. A little know fact is that Godding was short listed and auditioned to replace Holdsworth in Soft Machine, but Etheridge got the gig.
