I think they'll end up in the top 5 of their division, easily.

Hope so. I've read that Daniel Briere was offered more money by Montreal, but chose Philly instead. Seems the rumour is that players aren't crazy about the higher taxes & school system in Quebec. It's a shame, 'cause with Gainey at the helm & Gillette as owner, they are intent on restoring this hallowed franchise to its' rightful place among the top tier in the NHL.
P.S. same story last year with Shanahan. Took less money to go to Rangers.

Again with the name calling.  You must have rocks (falling) for brains.  LOL
Its Hockey, may i reapeat HOCKEY, this is the sport for the loud and violent, and thats why I love it.

Now for actual discussion,
I love the avs (being in colorado you dont really have a choice) and this year we have a rellitivly good team, its just a shame that we traded Abbicher away, he was a great golie and was doing a good job of filling Roy's shoes, but now all we have is secont rate golies that are dragging the team down.

Point being I have decided that the golie is the backbone of the team, without an amazing golie you lose, opinions anyone?

Well, as a Montreal fan, I can say that I am glad that Theodore had a rather suspect entourage while in Habsville Wink. They traded him before the NHL downsized the goalie equipment. And while the Habs only had Abby for a short time, he did do the job as well as could be expected. And Montreal looks like a genius with Jose's current level of play. I'm hoping that Price turns out to be the New Patrick Roy. Huet could be a very coveted veteran goalie come mid season. So if Gainey thinks Price can carry them, Huet might be great trade bait to help the Habs fill a need or two, like extra scoring.
I think the defense will do fine, with Mark Streit being given more of a spotlight. Markov seems ready for a career year, and his play hopefully will make folks forget about Souray's supposed impact on the team. Great shot, but defensively ????

Not a bad performance by the Wings. What really gets me, though, is how the Wings get lax on defense right after scoring. Frustrating as hell. Angry

Unfortunately, I missed all of the scoring as I didn't get out of work until late last night.  I caught the last couple of minutes and then the post game highlights and interviews.  The Datsyuk-Zetterberg-Holmstrom may very well be the best line in the NHL.  Babcock is faced with the dilemma of keeping Datsyuk-Zetterberg together and having one great line, or splitting them up and having two good lines.

There was a lot of talk last year regarding the Pittsburgh Penguins moving to Kansas City where they have a brand new arena eagerly awaiting a team.  The debate was then which team would move from the Western Conference to the Eastern Conference.  Of course, us in Detroit felt that it should be us so we wouldn't have to have so much travel out West and that we could renew our rivalries with the other 4 original six.  But I think that either or both Columbus and Nashville might actually be further east than Detroit so we would have probably lost that bid.  All for naught anyhow since Pittsburgh agreed to build the Penguins a new rink.

I was always a big Sergei Samsonov fan so I would pull for the Bruins to do well.  He started his professional career starring for the minor league Detroit Vipers in their inaugural season.  When he signed with the Bruins I found a Samsonov poster in a Bruins uniform which I still have hanging on the back of a door.  I believe he is playing for the BlackHawks now, but I won''t be pulling for them any time soon.

Well, the Wings had another goal taken away by the officials again yesterday and they lost another game by 1 goal to the BlackHawks. 2 Goals in 2 Games in 2 Weeks.  The NHL must be handicapping their games now. LOL   I was eating dinner at a restaurant/bar so I just saw bits of the play and really can't state an opinion.  Tomas Holmstrom knocked the goal in the net and the next time I looked up he was sitting in the penalty box.  I suppose he took his usual 5 or 6 cross checks and slashes and then got called for goaltender's interference for interfering with the Goalie's stick.  Oh well.  Also funny, Robert Lang has scored two goals this season and both are against the Wings.  I think that the goal last night went through Dominik Hasek he shot it so hard.

(sigh) Well now the Flyers have two players suspended this year for at least 20 games.  I really hope nothing like those two hits happen again this year, because it's overshadowing how well the Flyers are doing right now....

Just for the crap he stirred up in Montreal last year, I hope the guy has another 7 goal season. He acted the prima donna, rarely cluing in that his performance is what mattered not his past.

Let's all hope so , too. But I figure you'll have a few more. And hopefully the league will keep cracking down until the point is understood before someone gets killed.

I don't think that I even knew that he was in Montreal last year.  I suppose I might have seen that somewhere along the way.  Never seeing the Eastern Conference teams, I kind of lose track to where some of these guys are playing.

Well, I almost shudder to say this, but I'm a long-suffering BlackHawks fan. <ducks>

Probably the only team in pro sports that doesn't televise its home games, except on rare occasions.

They are starting out pretty well this year so far, beating the Red Wings twice, which is twice as much as they usually beat them.

Things have to get better, with the new regime in place after the owner's demise. They just have to get better.

After all, how much worse could it get? One of the Original Six sinking to such depths?

The last time they won the Cup I was nine years old. Unreal.
Bring me my broadsword, and clear understanding.

The Ducks really handed it to the Red Wings last night.  It was the Stanley Cup playoffs all over again.  I am really not too big of a fan of Bryan Rafalski.  He scored a goal yesterday, but he had a major gaffe on the blueline with the score tied 3-3 and the Wings on a power play.  He let the puck get by him and the Ducks were off to the races for a short-handed goal.

The referees certainly made some quite progressive music blowing their whistles throughout the entire game.  I know Anaheim had at least 11 power plays and I think the Wings had a similar amount.  Most of the early goals were scored on 5 on 3 power plays.  Holmstrom had 5 penalties by himself.  This guy gets absolutely raped in front of the net, then Pronger the idiot falls down and Holmstrom gets a penalty for it.  Absolutely ridiculous the crap he has to put up with.

Well with the passing of owner Wirtz, maybe there's hope that the exec suite will step into the modern age. God only knows they've had a number of great players go through their ranks in the past decade.

Lifelong Flyers fan here! Thumbs%20Up A good start to the season, definitely, and that team is only going to get better as the season progresses. I certainly have high hopes.

For someone who followed the team actively throughout last season as well, this is extremely rewarding.

The Wings beat the Sharks 4-2 last night.  Good to beat one of their West Coast nemesis on the road.  These West Coast games are too hard for me to stay up for.  I fell asleep after the 1st period with the Sharks leading 1-0, so it was good to wake up and see that the Wings won. Clap

I hope this doesn't continue for the Sharks. I had a feeling when they basically did nothing to sure up their flat-footed D in the off-season. Let Hannan go but keep Errorhoff, way to go.  There was a point last night with 2 minutes left where the 2 Sharks d-men and one of the forwards watch the puck roll between them at the top of the left circle. So a Wing skates from the blueline in between them and slaps a shot in. Not only that, but I don't think they had more consecutive tape to tape passes than 3 all night.

Its like having the playoff Sharks play the regular season. Angry
