I really enjoyed them recently. Awesome band, one of the most haunting and beautiful examples of music ever. Even their pop-albums are very, very enjoyable. Any recommendations of somethings related (except for SIGUR ROS and BARK PSYCHOSIS)?

Yep, I'm in them mostly for 1988/1991 releases. I'm already seeking for Hollis solo (after reading so many positive things about it on TALK TALK's unofficial site)

Gazpacho - Night is somewhat similar with its melancholy - but I'm quite sure you are familiar with this album? Wink

I can recommend their live album London 1986

There music does change quite dramatically on their later releases, especially "Laughing stock". Hollis' solo album is very much a continuation of that later style.

David Sylvian (solo) and Japan might be worth a look.

Yep, and it left me unimpressed emotionally (except for opening track and some bits from other tracks). Check your inbox, BTW

Actually, I once saw Talk Talk supporting Duran Duran, but that was in their early days. I agree with Easy Livin, try David Sylvian e.g. Secrets of the Beehive.

Not to forget JAPAN side-project RAIN TREE CROW with their (dark) melancholic atmosphere - fantastic!!!

I am very happy to hear words of praise for Japan, who were recently added to Art Rock. I know some people disagreed with their addition, though it was not done without a lot of thought and consideration as to the prog elements in their music.

Apologies for appearing pedantic, but Talk Talk are listed as prog related, where personally I think Japan would better fit.Wink

You don't appear pedantic in the least, and if you think they are better suited to PR, they can be moved with the agreement of the Xover team. However, for consistency's sake, it would also be better to move Rain Tree Crow and David Sylvian.

It was jsut a personal opinion Raf, but thanks for the offer! If a prog team feels a band fits in their area, that takes precedence over prog related.

I would actually say that Sylvian's solo work fits OK in a prog gene, I think there is a big difference in the prog elements of his solo work, and those of Japan. RTC are sort of in the middle, but really just Japan by another name.

Japan might fit better in prog-related, but I think Sylvian's solo albums (or at least most of them) are far more progressive than Japan, so they should stay in crossover prog. The one album by Rain Tree Crow is really a Japan album, but it sounds more experimental than the earlier Japan. And then there's Nine Horses, should they be in prog-related or are they too poppy?

Back to Talk Talk, why isn't Mark Hollis here? His solo album sounds very much like Spirit of Eden.

I've never added anyone and I don't even know how to, so I'd rather let someone else do it.

I had to! Anyhoo, if you dig the last two albums and don't have a problem with their pop tunes, try Talk Talk's "Asides Besides" compilation. Most of the songs are 12" mixes and b-sides, but at the very end of each of the two discs you've got about three tracks that are closely related to the tunes from 88-91.

^ thanks for suggestion, WDT, I have some tracks from it (My Foolish Friend, 5.09 etc). I also saw RAIN TREE CROW in my belowed Lugansk store and had it on wish-list for a while, so I'll grab them without a doubt.

If you want my opinion, TALK TALK is definitely Art (Xover to be precise). Two latest albums are among the most revolutional albums ever made, and even Colours of Spring is undeniably progressive (while not wholly Prog). First two are Pop, but hey even GENESIS were more Pop at those times!
